To have a more or less neutral carbon foot print would mean going back to life in about 1900 where few had cars and most people walked or took bicycles or public street cars, electric lights and appliances were rare and running water and flush toilets were luxuries..., the average lifespan was 48 years and malnutrition was prevalent because large-scale agriculture, powered AND fertilized by fossil fuel wasn't possible. And, in any event, within a few short years, the CO2 emissions from the coal-fired powerplants the Chinese are building will exceed the combined emissions of ALL existing coal plants worldwide.
