Sounds like someone is planning on doing some fishing.
They could also use booze for suicide tactics. I read that Fallujah was littered with intravenous needles used by insurgents.
Kind of makes you wonder how many times it's not reported. ;-)
It's more likely they were just going to drink it. In most Middle Eastern countries, booze is legal and a lot of Middle Easterns imbibe.
A buddy and I took a box of booze from an Officer's Club once. In an AF truck. While on duty. That one didn't get reported. The First Seargent knew we were up to nothing good, and remained silent:)

Seriously, nitric acid is one of the three things you need to make nitroglycerin.
I had to break away. My buddy's wife sold that box of Jim Beam to a nice Spanish restaurant. We decided to get dressed up and go to the Casino Gran Madrid. You need to wear a suit or a dress and have a passport to get in there. Nice people and a food layout that will make you drool on your high heels.

Or nitrocellulose. 20% sulfuric acid, 80% nitric acid, glyerine. And a lot of water with baking soda to stablize the acids in the nitroglycerin oil. I made it when I was 15. A window-rattling explosion in the back yard woke my dad up and he came after me swinging a belt. That was the end of that experiment. It was really LOUD.
What do you mean? Do you mean they get the suicide bombers drunk so they have more "courage" to follow through?!

I didn't make that particular substance but I learned a lot about chemistry... I wonder about future generations of curious teens learning by doing edgy things - since columbine and 9/11 it just isn't the same for kids. At least I could go to my chem teacher and while he never approved I got hints and warnings when I needed to be safer. For example he would say things like, "boy if I were gonna nitrate something, I sure wouldn't do it without a fume hood"
I feel bad for kids today they have so many less choices and so much less freedom.
