A knee-jerk distrust for government is the best trait our founders tried to pass on to us...your doing fine in your reasoning, in my opinion.

If my neighbor's child was a gang member and had been tried and convicted of this I'd wonder why he wasn't hung to begin with, even if the victims were streetscum, too.

This is a guy who back around 1988 or so was caught stealing a donut and when caught his response was to punch the guy who caught him in the face. He was sentenced to some time on an assualt charge and jumped bail; took off to Florida where he had a road rage incident and brandished a gun at a motorist, then fired it when the motorist wasn't impressed with his driving or his weapon. He served a little time for that bbefore converting to the wonderful world of islam and changing his name to the name which the press loathes to mention for fear of getting CAIR's lawyers all riled up, Abdullah Al-Mujahir.
