"Beltzer and Janet Reno would make some real ugly children."

;D!!!

Beltzer looks like Keith Richards in a suit! Wish I knew how to post pics.

I also ceased reading very quickly. Have you ever seen one of Belzer's tirades against the government and Republicans - right in the show? He is disgusting as well as ugly. Between Belzer and D'Onofrio Law & Order has become very unpopular at our house. The only thing that keeps me coming back is Meloni. I think the government should grab Belzer's bony ass and drop it in Afghanistan or Iraq and then we'll see how much he knows. And for how long.

Belzer really ruins it. You know he is crazy when Ice-T is the voice of reason between the two of them.

LOL - there is even an episode when Ice-T's character cops to being a Republican!

I kinda like the Munch character. No so much left-wing as the actor, but more Art Bell conspiracy-theory type stuff. They all pretty much roll their eyes at his rantings anyhow, as we should in real life.

Belzer is seriously koo-koo.

I remember hearing him years ago on Howard Stern seriously contending that the moon was put in earth's orbit by an intelligent extraterrestrial society.

His proof was that the same side of the moon always faces earth which allows them to monitor us.

The only logical explanation he could see for this rather common celestial arrangement was the alien spybase theory.

"19 and 20-year-old kids who couldn't get a job"

I guess they should've listened to John Kerry.

How a man who could say something so idiotic is protrayed as a cerebral intellectual is absolutely stultifying to me. That's like me saying that I know more about medicine than a doctor because I read more medical journals than he does.

Can't these people stick to acting?

Why should he? He's not very good at it.

I'm not sure what he is good at, though ...

This article is a year old and was heavily discussed back then. What's the point of a repost?

Another advocate of stereotyping. US volunteer military are NOT just "throwaway" people, uneducated, unskilled, and unable to find any other work. Most are ambitious, technically trained, and highly motivated.

Certainly, the military does get a few into their ranks who are relatively unmotivated, take little responsibility for their erroneous ways, and try to circumvent the system. Almost immediately, these types are weeded out, and separated "for the good of the service". They are of little use as soldiers, sailors, Marines, or airmen.

And it all comes back to being volunteers. For draftees, who have no wish to be there in the first place (well, MOST of them, anyway), motivation is always a problem, and an army of draftees is a less effective army than a corps of dedicated warriors.

According to actor and comedian Richard Belzer-

I stopped reading right there

I stopped reading right there as well, and started thinking about his wife.

American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are too uneducated to be expressing support for the U.S. military mission...

This from someone who struggled through one year of junior college before enlisting in the army, a "career" apparently cut short before his enlistment was completed. The nature of his discharge would be relevant information.

From Wikipedia (So it must be true!)
Richard Belzer:
After high school, he worked as a reporter for the Bridgeport Post.
He attended Dean Junior College in Franklin, MA for a year and a part of a semester
before being asked to leave for leading too many student demonstrations.
According to one interview, he was majoring in Physical Education.
After leaving college, Belzer was encouraged by his father to enlist in the Army.
He soon realized he was unsuitable for the military and tried to get out,
and eventually he was successful at terminating his enlistment early.
After the Army, Belzer moved to New York City and began working as a stand-up comic.

Wow. A high school grad, army drop out.
How's that "stand-up comic" gig working for ya' Ricky...
