"Third way": Combining the openness and wealth creation of capitalism with the redistribution and safety nets of socialism.

Exactly... socialism on the sneak...

Anyone that supports a liberal candidate that is pro-gay, pro-late term abortion and anti-2nd Amendment should not be allowed to call themselves a FReeper.

A welfare plantation for illegals is not fiscal conservatism...

Public housing for illegals is not fiscal conservatism...

Free medical for illegals at the expense of American citizens is not fiscal conservatism...

Affirmative action in citizenship for illegals is not fiscal conservatism...

Excellent points. It's a farce to think someone can be a socialist ideologically and at the same time be conservative fiscally. It takes a considerable amount of money to fund socialist ideas.

However, Murdock's implicit effort to credit Giuliani with the declining number of abortions during his tenure as mayor goes too far. As Murdock acknowledges, the number of abortions was declining nationwide during this period -- obviously for demographic reasons -- and New York City merely reflected that trend. Here's the rub, though. Unless Murdock can show that there was something special about Giuliani's public policies that reduced the number of abortions in New York City, which I doubt, I THINK he has over-reached in his efforts to prop up Giuliani's "social conservative" credentials.

And?

You have not begun to show that anything in Rudy pro-abortion policies reduced abortion and you have not shown that abortion rates in New York differed from the national trends. You're no closer to evidence for your original sourceless claims than you were before.

Predictably.

M. Thatcher, I humbly apologize for my error. I was having this conversation with Fair Opinion and somehow I replied to you instead of FO. As for not responding to you sooner, I live in central time zone and went to bed when you posted this (1:30am). Again, my apologies for posting that comment to you when it was meant to FO.

About the laughing hyena you posted, you really do your liberal candidate a disservice putting that up. He looks like he belongs in the loony farm. That really is an act of desperation to post something as embarrassing as that. You liberals really are desperate.

Clearly, the only reason you refuse to acknowledge that Rudy's policies were textbook fiscal conservatism is that you don't understand what fiscal conservatism is. What do you think happened under Ronald Reagan in the 1980s? Exactly, precisely the same thing.

What is it about Rudy promoters that causes them to falsely equate him to Reagan?

"This plan is aimed at reducing the growth in government spending and taxing, reforming and eliminating regulations which are unnecessary and unproductive or counterproductive, and encouraging a consistent monetary policy aimed at maintaining the value of the currency." --Ronald Reagan, White House Report on the Program for Economic Recovery, February 18th, 1981

If you believe our next national leader/president should be someone who can balance the country's checkbook and restore order in Iraq like he did in NYC, then Rudy is the man. However....If you believe that we are in struggle with Good vs Evil, as I do, then we may want to select a better candidate. We are not facing a global Crypts vs Bloods gang war.....it much more than that. If by some miracle we were to absolutely stop all violence in Iraq the 1st morning after a Guiliani inauguration, we'd still have the "Clash of Civilizations" underway.

President Bush has a vision of what needs to happen in the Middle East but unfortunately he can't communicate it effectively. Perhaps the fault is not with the sender but instead with the receiver. It won't be until we have 5 or 6 more 9/11 incidents that we may sit back and ponder this situation with some more depth of reason. Most of our current analysis and thinking is a hundred miles wide and 3 microns deep.

I've been lurking this thread as a supporter of Mr. Giuliani...jumping in with an opinion would only have exposed me to attack and personal insult so I've stayed out -- until now.

I just wanted to acknowledge that as a pro life, NRA member, straight conservative line voter, I'm supporting Mr.Giuliani.

He was my mayor, so I saw how he governed as a conservative and how he was opposed every step of the way by the liberals.

Anti Rudy spin may convince some of you not familiar with his record of conservative governance -- but, it can't convince me. I've seen the results of his conservative policies: improved quality of life for me and my family.

This ain't NYC down here. We like our guns, babies and there aren't any gay pride parades to march in. What is conservative up there is liberal to moderate here. I am glad your life improved. What about the rest of the state? Did it improve also? My Quality of life also improved while Rudy was Mayor. Does Rudy get the Credit?

"Rudy peaks at about 40%. That is a problem for him."

Against multiple candidates, I'll take that any day.

"Posting new articles on the same subject is not spam."

This comment reminds me of the old Monty Python skit on Spam.

"Well, there's egg and bacon; egg sausage and bacon; egg and spam; egg bacon and spam; egg bacon sausage and spam; spam bacon sausage and spam; spam egg spam spam bacon and spam; spam sausage spam spam bacon spam tomato and spam;"

Any way you want to dress the Rudy postings up, it's still Spam.

My nomination as "Post of the Week." Very good arguments! Don't ever think the liberal New Yorkers will understand, however.
