The audit, required by Congress over the objections of the Bush administration, contains classified information...

Really? "over the objections of the Bush administration"? Who signed the bill? What party passed the PA?

FBI Director Robert Mueller said he "took responsibility"

I wonder what that means. If the FBI has abused the Patriot Act, that is wrong. This is the concern of every freedom loving person. You can take away all of our rights by claiming it is for "security". Government is good at that.

Even when we were crouching under our desks fearing a nuclear attack from the Soviet Union in the early 60's the U.S. government knew better then to propose a police state Act like the PA. Americans have become wimps and are encouraged to be so by our government. I am supposed to be more afraid of shadowy threats from backward little ME countries then I was of Nikita Khrushchev and the Soviet Union? What a joke we have become....

That bears repeating.

Patriot Act set aside, I grew up in that era and there is more to fear from terrorism and their ultimately acquiring some nuclear weapons then there ever was with the Soviet Union...when it comes to the *likelihood* of an attack (very limited such an attack would be), as opposed to the fear of an all-out exchange during the Cold War, as I don't see things like "MAD" as being as effective with religious enemies as I do with political enemies. I'll leave others here to debate the portions of the Patriot Act.
