I agree 100%. I am not comfortable AT ALL knowing he will not be protected for life. I know VP's lose the protection a year or 2 after they are out...but the President's always had it for life. I mean how nice that Bill Clinton will have protection for the rest of his life but everyone after him..nope..just 10 years. That is just crazy.

There is no other man on this planet who needs more protection than George W Bush. I mean the alternative will be to hire a full security detail of men and women to guard all of his homes and his travel detail around the clock...which would be expensive beyond comprehension.

"I don't understand why this law was passed. All presidents should have protection for the rest of their lives imo. Odd that it would be passed. "

I respectfully disagree "My Favorite Headache". We should not bestow benefits upon public servants out of office. We don't have Kings and Queens (despite what the Hilda beast thinks).

It is bad enough many public officials think that laws only apply to us taxpayers and they are above the law. They are not. They are our servants and don't let anyone tell you different.

I for one (maybe the only one here) do not want my tax dollars paying for very expensive security for a person out of office.

Just remember how many of these people want to make sure you and I cannot protect ourselves by passing unconstitutional gun laws.

That's not what this is about. A former President would make an irresistable target to use as a hostage. The country is protecting itself, not so much the person.

Again I respectfully disagree Ramius. As it is right now, my tax dollars will have to protect the sorry ass of the big stain even though that puke and his fellow travelers did and continue to do everything possible to make sure the taxpayers cannot protect themselves.

A former President taken hostage might tug at the heart strings (depending upon the President in question)however, that should not mean the country was taken hostage any more so than if you or I were the one take. He no longer has power so the act of taking him hostage would be for emotion/terror not political leverage.

Furthermore, again my tax dollars will most assuredly go for protecting an entire group of ex-prez that refused to protect our Southern boarder and protect us from the illegal scum oozing across same.

Equal protection under the law did not exempt any public official IMO.

I get what you're saying. But if you think that there would be no difference in impact between a former President taken hostage and/or beheaded on video-- no difference than if it were you or I? Sorry, but I think you're just wrong about that.
