My concern is that the "true conservative" voters have done what normal conservatives do---work, raise families...etc...
Not involve themselves in day-to-day political acitivism....which might be as simple as arguing with coworkers for conservative principles. (Like fiscal responsibility.)
So over time (since 1994, THIRTEEN years ago) the left's message has swayed many traditionally Reagan democrats and independents...or worse...new voters.
I'm afraid the Santorum etc losses are proving that there's not latent conservative stripe in America waiting to be reborn. It's not 1980.
When SOCIAL SECURITY became a third-rail, we were already a SOCIALIST country. The left knows that and is dividing and conquering us.
I wish the right would at least bind together and stop the bleeding....but it seems half of the right is happy to let the country bleed to death in the field for want of a pristine, sterile bandage and clean operating room.
Now, I'm concerned that the apathetic conservatives are gathering to revolt, with the subsequent result that we are moving ever faster to the left because of their inaction.
And I think that most of those that disagree with me that "Less fast" is better than "more fast" with Hillary, -do- agree with me that if they stay at home, that hillary or obama can win.
And they don't seem to care.
I expect to see all the [insertname here]Bots all start professing about their candidate now.
"...we can ALL support."
Agreed. Thompson is also my preference so far....but he's going to fail for the social conservatives because of his skirt chasing.
Point is, this trend is divergent.
If he's someone we can "all" support, then he's a mealy-mouthed milquetoast like George Allen that was brought down by a college kid with a camera.
If he's a firebrand conservative, and a real human being, then one of the "coalition" be it social or guns, whatever, will have a problem with him.
As Tom DeLay just said on Rush's interview:
DELAY: "...Liberals, by the virtue of their philosophy, are collectivists. So it's easy to pull everybody together and work together. You've got abortionists working on labor policy. You've got labor unions working on environmental policy. Conservatives, by their philosophy, are individualists. They create an organization to protect against gun control, but you can't get the gun owners to work against abortions. Shoot, during the energy bill in 2005, I couldn't get the mining association to work with the chemical association. (Laughing.)"
