For me it's the Mary Hart TV show theme song.
I suspect it might be that great mass of flourescent lights. Because of alternating current, lights blink on and off 60 times a second. With an incandescent bulb it doesn't dim much, but with flourescents they actually flicker on and off. It's too rapid to actually see, but it can have a subliminal effect on you.
Now that you mention it, I also feel a bit strange when I first walk into a warehouse store. Not enough to have really noticed it until you spoke about it.
A new take on the old "rhythm method."
Now, you've gone and forced me to do something drastic.
Yeah, that sounds likely. Alcohol lowers the "seizure threshold" and I'd bet that stress does, too.
Epilepsy and booze is a really bad combination.
That could very well be the case. It would usually happen shortly after entering the store, and when I was just looking around to get my bearings. So the lights blinking while my head was moving may have been the cause.
One thing I know, I now walk in and try to concentrate on things either immediately around me, or on something at a distance without looking 'around'. It seems to work.
"Yes your Honor, I must have an increase in my SSI payments, and a free FEMA house due to my incapacitational seizures brought on by the harmonica imbalances of the rythmic potentiometer of the electromagnificent interference from my rechargeable toofbrush."
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman did it to me.
Me too. My dentist told me I should only be using it on my teeth. Who knew?
Can you get the same result from driving over bridge expansion joints? A trip over the San Mateo Bridge (7 miles) would probably be enough to send someone over the edge.
Hmmm. Chicken-chokers report seizures following repetitive motion, too.
Shut up and brush you teeth kid! :)
Well I'm going to stop brushing my teeth just to be on the safe side.
Thank you.
I have had grand mal seizures since I was 6 or so. Have them controlled with mediciation. In my particular case it can be brought on by stress. I'm also an advid video gamer on my PC at home and I'd heard about the refresh rate on monitors acting like a strobelight but had never had any problems spending a LOT of time online each day (12-16 hours between work and home).
I did, however, have a grand mal seizure that almost killed me while I was playing a stand-up arcade game, "House Of The Dead". I was in the middle of one of the early parts of the game and a zombie stepped out around a gravestone and threw an axe and the next thing I remember was being in the ambulance. That's sort of the best way I can describe having a seizure from my end - you just sort of fade to black and fade back to light in a differant position or place. I won't worry until I see credits scrolling by. :)
I drink beer pretty regularly, and I'm been blessed to have no ill effects, although I've known other epileptics who can't so much as sip a glass of wine.
I'm more then happy to answer any questions about epilepsy that anyone has. Feel free to message me or just post here.
