The wealthy are conspicuous for their lack of consumption: "What are three words that profile the affluent? FRUGAL FRUGAL FRUGAL".
John Edwards is precisely the picture of the privileged wealthy that he decries.

Yes, the libs have the old playbook out now, opened to the section on CLASS DIVISION. The 'haves' and the 'havenots'. Always straining to divide the country for VOTES. And with it, spraying untold quantities of HYPOCRISY all over us...yes, the Breck Girl is a real example of a struggling American...right? So the socialists, hating economics success because it goes against the fundamental premise of socialism that the people shall have no power (wealth is indeed power) are continuing their ANTI-AMERICAN attack on the very thing that pays the bills in this 'near socialist' country --- the people WHO MAKE THE MONEY AND PAY B-I-G TAXES. I wonder how the socialist loons think they will get a paycheck when the REAL PRODUCERS in America QUIT!??
The shopworn word "divisive" comes to mind. People who try to set Americans against one another are up to no good.

And they call GWB divisive.
Yeah wonder how the voters of Virgina feel now. The though they were hiring a Reagan Clone, they got Karl Marx Jr. Funny how Democrats never act in DC like they talk at home.
I read the book, and it should be required reading for everybody. What is left unsaid is that there are most likely far more millionaires (in total wealth) now than when the book was written (1996). And I'm willing to bet that most Americans, including millions of newly wealthy Dems, dislike the idea of someone taxing the bejeesus out of their stock market investments. It would be interesting to see what the average total wealth of over-forty Americans currently is. I'll bet a great many of those Americans are millionaires or have at least half a million.
Even more fundamental, we don't tax wealth, we tax income. As the author points out, there are people with high incomes who are not wealthy. Try buying a house in the Washington, DC suburbs. You need two great incomes to afford one. Take two young professional starting out as an example. They've got income but very little wealth. The government socks them but a fat cat like Ted Kennedy or John Kerry sits on wealth while showing relatively less income.
Millionaires who get it easy AREN'T Frugal, Frugal, Frugal.
Excellent article!
In the future, please limit the width of your graphics to no more than, say, 600 pixels. For example, instead of just putting img src="http://www.physicscoach.com/edwardshouselow.jpg", put: img src="http://www.physicscoach.com/edwardshouselow.jpg" width=600 instead. Thank you.
