Nothing screws up hiking trails worse then those freaking shyt spewing four legged nags.

I said our system works really well in Capitol Forest, and I mean it. They have a whole side of the forest of their own.

I'll concede that horses can do some damage to low wet trails during the wettest season. Well managed trails are closed to horse traffic during the worst times of year, or are well constructed to take the traffic, or both. I might also add that in Capital Forest, it is the horseman groups who do much of the volunteer trailhead and trail clean up on their side.

I pass lots of hikers and bicycles on the non-motorized side, I don't know how many hikers, who can use either one, choose the ORV side.

There is nothing sporting — athletic, physically demanding — about riding any machine anywhere

He's obviously never ridden a dirtbike, a snowmobile, or a jetski, to make that statement.

Ah yes. His name is also on Senate Joint Memorial 8016. It calls for Bush's impeachment.

I wasn't aware of this, but it certainly fits his overall persona.  This morning Kirby Wilbur was boosting this impeachment bill, his justification being that it would mortally wound the Dems.  I'm not so sure how many rational Dems are left in that 'party' who would be offended by such a measure and leave or create discord.   Their media allies will gloss it over as 'a principled gesture by passionate lawmakers' and it will most likely be forgotten by the collective public consciousness by 2008.

...so they can remember never to vote for me.

This clown is on cloud 43 and climbing, is ambulance chasing ACLU scum, but I am more then impressed with any politician who speaks his mind in an honest fashion regadless of the consequences including the inevitable loss of incumbancyor.

Hands down it beats the 3 faced, two sided flip floppin hypocritical special interest chasing turds we usually have to deal with.

Agreed.  It's indeed tiresome to always be subjected to moonbats who lie and try to convince us through subterfuge that they are rational and coherent.  It's refreshing to encounter one who shamelessly revels in his own idiocy; I only wish that he represented a different State (or, preferably a different country).  I am so very, very tired of being embarrassed by hard-Left politicians who claim to represent me.

"sigh"

Using Kline's expletives-should-be-deleted logic, internal combustion machines ON-road ought to be outlawed.

I have no doubt that he would be delighted to sponsor legislation to that effect, exempting himself and his Marxist friends, of course.

I hate to think what he would like to do legislatively to those infernal flying machines.

I'm guessing that he would want to eliminate all Coach seating classes on 'safety' grounds, and expand First Class into the rest of the plane.  Those 'budget' seats promote deep-vein thrombosis on long trips after all.

Okay, Senator: I nominate you to lead the new, statewide, on-and-off-road horse poop clean up detail.

With this he could finally contribute to the public good, probably for the first time in his life.

I have a bit of an issue with the ATV'ers that have torn up my land, without so much as a by-your-leave.

I mean, they have done tens of thousands of dollars in damage, frankly.

But when the Doc complained (my nearest neighbor), he got burned out in the middle of the night.

So...we came to a compromise. They stay the hell away from my cabin, and I ignore the damage done to my land elsewhere.

It looks like grand, screaming fun as well as a real challenge!

But then reality, law and the Constitution never really matters when Leftists enact legislation based solely upon their feelings, personal preferences and personal biases.

I hate to say it, but I kind of agree with the guy. As an avid mountain biker, I've seen first hand the difficulty we have keeping motorized vehicles off local trails, and it's left me little sympathy for dirt bikes and four wheelers.

If people are operating vehicles improperly, in banned areas or in other ways that are at variance with existing laws and regulations, then by all means use the numerous existing laws to prosecute them.  I know that serious and responsible off-roaders pride themselves upon their awareness and compliance with the law, and have little sympathy for those who don't.

My objection is that this guy is signing on to extremely restrictive legislation based upon his own very narrow interpretation of what he feels the outdoors are 'for', which is not a way that public outdoor recreation areas are currently defined, last time I checked.  (not to mention his foul and unstatesmanlike language and demeanor which brings the quality of public discourse down to the level of a brawling street fight)

"And it's a damned annoyance to folks who see the outdoors as a place to go for quiet and solitude and self-exploration. I would be happy to ban the use of the internal combustion engine off-road, by anyone without a handicapped sticker, subject to a stiff fine."

Nothing sporting , athletic, or physically demanding here? Nickey Hayden would certainly disagree.

Kline takes pride in ignorance. Fool.

BTTT I am really glad to see this getting some daylight. I have been doing almost nothing but fighting SB5544 for the last month. I was at the public hearing on February 2, and have been continually writing and calling the various sponsors and committee members, including my senator, Derek Kilmer, who voted for it after telling anyone who asked that he was going to vote against it as it singled out ORVs for punitive fines up to $800, PLUS attorney fees for the vigilante - er, citizen who sues the ORV rider for being "audible", while ignoring all other sources of noise pollution.

That's right, if anyone can hear you, they can sue you. You do not have to be doing anything illegal, you do not have to be riding on private property, you do not have to have a bike louder than the old standards (105db 20 inches from the tailpipe) or the new one (96db).

All you have to be is "plainley audible" 10 ft from or inside any residence (not neccesarily yours), or louder than 45db (the sound of grass growing) 10 ft from the property line.

The only people who voted PRO were WA state employees, and one futurewise lobbyist. SB 5544's own fiscal notes prove there were ZERO infractions for ORV noise in 2006.

This bill is designed for one thing only, and that is to shut down offroad motorized recreation altogether in this state.

I'll lay the whole thing out in the coming days, as I was just about to ask my FRiends for help with this anyways, and try to get Kirby to help.

Riding singletrack forest in this state is one of the most incredible experience one can have.

It's a family sport, it's how I raised my son, which many of you know.

There's no opportunities for drugs, graffitti, theft, sloth, video games, gangs, etc. out there.

Just good clean, muddy, extremely physical intense fun.

The ORV community is, as a rule, slow to catch on. They are typically apolitical. This is their leisure activity, no one wants to get in a big hassle over camping and riding perfectly legal ORVs in a perfectly conscientious manner, on trails that have been around since they were toddlers.

They just want to get out of the city and enjoy the tiny fraction of forest trails still left to them, which are typically DNR managed trust lands, or glorified tree farms.

There's an ORV rally at the capitol campus set for the 9th of March, but much more needs to be done to stop this, it's too far along.

As expected, 100% of the senate and house sponsors are rats. One R senator, McClasin, caved and voted with them, after telling me directly at the public hearing that he wouldn't.

More later, I got a party to get ready!

Rather accurate broad brush. I've had homes on 3 lakes and the irresponsibility of the VAST majority of pwc users are inconsiderate, dangerous a-holes who have no respect for the rules of the water or other users of the water. That is a fact! And to go around in circles for hours on end, gunning your engine over and over, thereby annoying everyone else with simple-minded "entertainment" also makes that user a stooge.
