I'll bet real estate values there have decreased significantly over the past two decades.

"Gumaro Vasquez Davila and Gerardo Mendiola picked up an unidentified man and went to Vasquez Davilas apartment"
Let's see, here ... two guys out cruising around, and they pick up a third guy. Hmmm. Sounds like this unidentified Hispanic male with a machete was a little naive, and didn't understand what was really going on at first, lol. I still can't quite figure out how anyone conceals a machete, though.

Now, that's a thought. They certainly didn't say whose machete it was, did they?

Laredo is booming!Really?! Because of business opportunities created by the flow of illegals, or for some other reason?

Yes, we Americans have lost our abilities in machete weilding. Perhaps our new citizens can re-teach us.

The Emerging Influence and Power of Mexican Drug Cartels
http://www.davickservices.com/Line_In_Sand0.htm
The Laredo Port of Entry is the busiest and most heavily traversed land Port of Entry on
the Southwest border, handling approximately 6,000 commercial vehicles a day. Forty
percent of all Mexican exports cross into Laredo, Texas, where Interstate 35 connects
directly to Dallas, and from there throughout the United States. U.S. Border Patrol Chief
John Montoya describes this Port of Entry as the key ingress into the United States.
Its called a gateway city, not only into Mexico but into the United States as well.
The very conditions that make the Laredo Port of Entry so attractive to legitimate commerce
also make the city ideal for the illicit drug and human smuggling trade.

I carry a machete in my pickup. You never know when you might need to cut some brush.

Sounds as though the streets of Laredo used to be safer before they were paved.
