Some of you folks may not know this, but Washington U. in St. Lou is one of the TOP medical centers in the country (consistently ranked in the top ten in many categories).
Thought you folks might be intersted in this finding.

I got confused while reading the article.
To: Pharmboy
Kind of funny, but a lot of statistical evidence says the opposite. In other words, a genius couple have average kids. Return to mean.

"One way to measure performance IQ may be to ask people to order pictures correctly to tell a story," Or posting too many images at FR.

Why am I getting the feeling there is a carefully disguised liberal agenda behind this ? (Blame the gene). Maybe not.

No--that is not the opposite, it is expected. Remember, total intellectual ability plays off (likely) hundreds of genes. Everyone is a unique combination. My wife was good in school, and so was I, but math was not our strong point. One of our kids is a math whizz (and I'm talking calculus here). Go figure...

All those critics of The Bell Curve were wrong. What a surprise!

I'm having trouble getting from here to there. What connection, if any, is there between a tendency towards alcoholism and intelligence or lack thereof?

LOL, they were the only group so out of it that they agreed to roll up their sleeve and donate some DNA for the "study". (I apologize in advance to anyone with this dread disease, it is a joke.)
To answer your question, there is no correlation.

Maybe the researchers just trolled the gutters of St. Louis and plucked hairs from sleeping derelicts. /sarc.

I think it was just availability of data rather than connections between alcoholism and IQ.

*****"One way to measure performance IQ may be to ask people to order pictures correctly to tell a story," Dick explains. "A simple example might be pictures of a child holding a vase, the vase broken to bits on the floor and the child crying. The person taking the test would have to put those pictures into an order that tells the story of how the child dropped the vase and broke it and then cried." ****
No, dummy, you got it backwards. First the kid drops the vase and is crying, then Humpty Dumpty comes along and puts the vase together and the kid is smiling. Duh.
Maybe I needs to get me a jean or two - wait - I have that....what I really need is a gene or three.

Yes, Nature more than Nurture. The Bell Curve examined every intelligence test from the early 20th Century. As I recall the correlation for intelligence being a factor of heredity was a standard deviation of .9.
To: redgolum
I know a "high" genius couple where the children are Even higher genius IQ.

I agree that happens. But statistically, a high genius level couple will have kids that are closer to the average IQ. Same reason why many kids of NFL players can not play at that level. Some can, but the greater likelihood is that they will not be as gifted.
