Its not how you see him or I see him, it is how the voters see him.

He is going to be defined based mainly on things such as who he chooses to align with in SC. Or that he would force the Border Patrol to accept a barrier that it clearly doesn't want or need just because it will benefit him politically.

Conservatism has nothing to be afraid of. It's the pussyfooting around the issues that causes problems. When people hear Hunter speak, they know they are hearing the real deal, not a tapdancer.

Bush campaigned on ending Partial Birth Abortion, was pilloried in the press for saying his favorite philospher was Jesus Christ, told America he would gut the gov't discrimination against faith based institutions taking part in civic activities, wanted to change the constitution to ban gay marriage, and said he would appoint judges like Scalia (perhaps th most hated man in left wing circles). Yet he won, twice. And had he campaigned and governed even more conservatively, he would have won bigger in 2004.

I don't buy this "America is turning liberal" meme. Though I'm starting to think the GOP might be headed htat way.

In 2004 Bush was a war president.

Otherwise, whatever Bush may have done or tried to do, it was never enough to satisfy the right fielders.

I'm a right fielder, as you say. I supported him 110%. He has his flaws, like all presidents, but it is not the flaw of being a liberal.

I'm not specifically saying you, only that a substantial number of GOP voters chose not to vote for Bush in 2000 and that an even larger number will not vote for Rudy in 2008

I agree with that, if it were to come to pass. By a factor of 5.

But my goal is to get the candidate that 98% of GOPers will vote for. (2% are Log Cabin types, I'm guessing). Defense hawk - check. Conservative social issues - Check. Supports 2nd Amendment unequivocally - check. Takes illegal immigration seriously - Check. Tax Cutter - Check. Smash mouths the party of treason - check.

Thank you for the ping. One of the main reasons for my support of Duncan Hunter is his record on illegal immigration and border security. I know that, should he be elected in '08, Hunter would do everything in his power to protect the sovereignty and security of this country. HOWEVER, I have grave concerns that he'll never get the chance.

Most of us are focused on the '08 elections. Yet, already Ted Kennedy will attempt next week to re-introduce another Senate Bill that is suppose to be even WORSE than 2611. Hearings are also starting THIS week. I'm also aware that the illegals plan to shut down major cities across this country again on May 1.

If you haven't already read the thread linked to the NumbersUSA, please do so. If you can take the time, or divide your time, we are coming quickly to a crossroads, and help is needed in contacting your Representatives in order to prevent the imminent passage of something I don't think even Duncan Hunter can 'undo'.

Historically, moderate republicans always support the nominee and will do so in 08.

Unfortunately, to elect a prez, you have to have more than republicans votes.

Yes, and the way you win landslided is like Nixon and Reagan and GHWB did. Paint your opponent in the unflattering light of his own liberalism.

Duncan Hunter by a landslide?

I hate to tell you this, if Hunter makes one slight mis-statement, all these "True Conservatives" will rip throat out.

Hunter is a true conservative. He won't make a mistake and show his liberal slip. Like he said, he doesn't need consultants to create a conservative image. He is what he is. Refreshing.

I want to know something.

The Hunter threads are always full of crickets, chirp chirp. How much are you going to pay me for bumping it up?

Better than the Rudy threads being full of liberals.

What do you want to know? I posted a thread yesterday that has 200+ hits. I and others have posted his speeches, his news clips, MSM articles about, interviews, his official positions from his website, his quotes, his record, his biography, his campaign stops, his conservative credentials, etc, etc.

Here's a good taste:

It's the truth. We don't need a bunch of spinners on the Hunter threads trying to convince the world that Hunter's a conservative. You are confusing noise with light on the Rudy threads.

From Link: "commercials highlighting his belief that China is stealing American jobs and threatening U.S. security by “cheating” at trade."

I'm so glad that a politician is FINALLY speaking about the China threat.

"I wish we could wake up tomorrow and find the "two front runners" Rudy & Hellery - out of the race."

That just might happen. Remember how Howard Dean burned out so quickly?

And I say he will bring the discussion of illegal immigration into the arena during the primaries. Even if he looks unelectable at this point, he puts an issue on the table that needs to be on the table.

The more we rally around him, the better he does, and the issue will gain momentum.

>I don't buy this "America turning lib" theme. Though I'm starting to think that it might be headed that way.<

Come now, p. You're only just starting to see the leftist leaning of the GOP? It's been headed that way for decades. And, unfortunately, with their educator's brainwashing, our young have been accepting that direction in lieu of learning actual American history, also for decades. It is said that if you don't know where you came from, you can't know where you're going. So sad. Duncan Hunter seems to be THE MAN for the job today. He'll have my vote.
