You are right, I agree completely. Why isn't this the answer given by republicans when they are asked the question?

I just have to think most Americans feel it is unpatriotic to say or do anything that might help or embolden our enemy during an armed conflict.

"One version would restrict American troops in Iraq to fighting al-Qaida, training Iraqi army and police forces, maintaining Iraq's territorial integrity and otherwise proceeding with the withdrawal of combat forces."

O.K., let me get this straight, they can continue to fight in Iraq but only agaist al-Qaida?!?! How are you going to police that? Does every soldier get a lawyer? Do they ask if they are al-Qaida before they shoot?

This idea is going nowhere fast.

Just remember, if it's any consolation, during the Revenlutiionary war, not every one wanted Independence from England, and we had our pacifists, and Loyalist, and I don't now if I can correct on this figure, but, only 1/3 of the people wanted separation from England.... so what is my point ? not all who are here in the USA are for the USA.
During our Independence from England the true patriots prevailed anyway.

Mark my word, if they do this, Joe is going to jump over to the Republican's.

It will be interesting to see if Nancy and John Murtha will be willing to ditch Harry.

That's the craziest idea of them all. When our troops apprehend someone should they ask to see if they have an al-qaeda ID card? Or perhaps they can show their Iraqi ID. "Hold on, let me get my wallet" :(

This legislation will never get the 60 votes needed to bring it to the floor for a vote. It's another example of Democrat posturing for the MSM when they know already that it doesn't have a chance.

They are attempting a Catch 22 for the president, perhaps to trap him into a reason for impeachment, but the ones in the hairs of the scope are those on the ground.

They have really gone over the edge.

If they follow through with this legislation, even to the point of bringing it up for a vote, that may be enough for Joe to jump.

Reid,Biden and Levin have waiting to long to let their majority slip away.

Rush Limbaugh hits the nail right on the head when he says that the Democrats have dug their selves so deep in the anti-war rhetoric that they have now invested their future in our defeat. If it appears we are gaining ground in Iraq it is bad for the Democrats for years to come. They win when we loose. But we all loose if we pull out before the job is complete because it will be followed by something far worse than 9/11.

That would be very interesting, but I fear short-lived.

Expect a recall election if he does - he ran on the pledge to caucus with the Dims, and many Connecticutians voted for him only because of that.

Joe won because Independents and Republicans voted for him.

True, but enough Democrats "crossed the line" to make the difference.

CT is a blue state. He'll find himself in a world of trouble at home should he jump to the other side of the aisle.

Doesn't mean that I don't want it to happen - just to see the look on Nancy's face would be worth it - but I can't see how Joe would last in office afterwards. It's a very short-term fix at best.

Reid couldn't get a toothless non-binding resolution through but he thinks this piece of flaming crap will pass?

Send a letter to your Senator/Represenative demanding they stop this garbage.

Use the system folks. Left or right they will feel the pressure.

Ivan, it is sad to realize that you, in England, know more about our constitution than do the people sworn to uphold it. Unfortunately for us, the congress seems to view the constitution as a problem to overcome.

Why ? There was no recall when Jeffords jumped.

I'm operating with a slightly unfair advantage - I did study the subject at university; most people don't do that, both in Britain and America.

can't W just veto the legislation?

Yes. It's also dubious they will pass this in the Senate. Furthermore it might be even unconstitutional and stopped by the Supreme Court.

If this move works, they should next revisit the declaration of war against Mexico, maybe rescind that and apologize to Mexico for invading them.
