Wow. Thanks for the ping Bic. When you get to write your own news you can make the myth the man. I'm surprised it took so long for this turd to float to the top. Disgusting.

I'm surprised it took so long for this turd to float to the top. Disgusting. Had not Richard B. Frank undertaken the research, we would never have known.

Shameful. Utterly shameful.I find it sad more than shameful. I read almost all the article and Polk has to be considered a true American hero as were all the others who served on Guadalcanal. It makes no sense for him to embelish like that. Very stupid. I can't understand why he wasn't satisfied with being just an ordinary American hero. What a dumbass he was.

Very interesting story for a WWII Pacific Theater buff like me. :)
Many professions are afflicted with the conceit that all of its members are honorable and trustworthy. While rare, it is by no means entirely unknown for military officers to have worn decorations to which they were not entitled.
Stolen Valor documents many civilians and servicemen wearing bogus decorations, including the Medal of Honor. Besides
the conceit of their profession veterans earn added credibility by virtue of their service in a theater of war.

I was privileged to be allowed to help the Holzers in prepublication work for their
Aid and Comfort: Jane Fonda in North Vietnam a treason indictment.
I believe Hank mentioned working with Burkett and finding the exposure very satisfying work.
The true heroes always have a certain modesty, never the flamboyant attention-drawing performance.
