"This is now widely considered by all scholars to be the very first organized celebration of Mardi Gras in a city, of the New World."

Has there ever been an organized Mardi Gras Celebration? Organization is the antithesis of the spirit of Mardi Gras. Organized = dull. Spontaneous = fun. I've heard the Mardi Gras celebrations in Mobile are very dull compared to those in Louisiana, so that may be the reason.

Yup, they are. Mobile advertises their Mardi Gras as being 'family friendly.'
