This may be a replay of 2000, when the Buchananites left the party. Most conservatives will make peace with Rudy, but extremists and one-issue voters will not. And I'm not in a forgiving mood for people who abandon the GOP in wartime.
Agreed.
but the fringe that won't can and should leave the party.
That's not my view. I like the energy of political battles within the party.
I do not bad mouth other people's choices. I know who Rudy is and what he has done. I admire a lot of things about him. I can not vote for him as president though.
"As was the case during the Cali recall election, the only defense that will be offered for the bot approved candidate will be electability and the fearful prospect of a Hitlerly nomination."
And why would the machine not do just that? We on the right have little to show for principled opposition and fair debate.
Of course, maybe that was then. Now, they're desperate, and it shows. They may now think they need us, and they need to convince us, if they're going to win again. The problem is that they can't change their stripes and convince us, any more than they could convince us back then. They could browbeat and insult and scare, but not convince. And it seems to me that convincing is what I need, because I can't see any rational reason right now to vote for the left-mod-RINO wing's proposed standard bearers. The American public doesn't seem all that differently inclined.
I agree with you entirely. We are a party of government who represent all Ameicans, not a single-issue group of extremists.
"And as for your argument that Casey won because he is pro-life, that is nonsense."
So that is nonsense, but basically saying Ridge and Specter won solely because they are pro-abortion is not? Can you be any more dishonest?
Toomey came so close to ridding this country of Specter. What was it? 52-48?
Yes, in a Republican primary, the pro-choice candidate won. And most independents and Democrats are pro-choice.
So...a pro-lifer can't even win a Republican primary, and he is going to win a general. Try again.
Kudos. This is a position I totally respect.
So then, can any state, at it's citizen's discretion, via voting polls or thru their representatives -Confiscate all firearms from the public? Declare 'atheism' the official state religion? Abolish the press?
Now firmly pro-life, despite 2002 tolerance for abortion. (Dec 2006)How convenient, focus groups.
Supports benefits for gay partners, but not gay marriage. (Sep 2002)Talk about Clintonese parsing
Sexual orientation should not preclude being a Scout. (Oct 1994) Great, gay scoutmasters trolling through the troops.
"The evidence, in Giuliani's increasing support, contradicts you."
You mean the increasing support that exists only in you and the other Rudymites own minds? Sorry if that is unconvicing.
And spare me the worthless early all-in-the-name polling data. It's really weak considering Kerry was at 4% a month before the first Iowa caucus.
You can't have a productive intra-party fight with the extremist fringe.
Have you had the "great" honor of prancing beside RINO-rudy in a nyc sweetpea parade?
There are MANY, MANY other reasons NOT to vote for RINO-rudy, besides his pro-gay positions, unless of course, you are...
1. A liberal.
2. A liberal demonRAT.
3. A liberal RINO.
4. On RINO-rudy's staff (so to speak).
5. Rino-rudy's mother, or some other relative.
6. A criminal who LOVES seeing citizens disarmed.
7. An abortion doctor who's making a great living.
and on, and on, and on...
I don't think so, those are issues that we have already decided. There are certain fundamental rights that are not to be violated. But that doesn't mean that you have to litter the consitution with just about every issue.
Just click on Cindydawg. All your questions will be answered.(chuckling)
It ceases to be if the U.S. constitution is amended. And if it weren't, many conservatives don't shrug their shoulders and mutter, "who cares!?' when character is cited as a noble and desired trait of any potential POTUS.
THAT is exactly the problem... the one government party - - republicrat/demopublican...
I will vote on the ISSUES...
Right now as he speaks to Conservative themes, and he does that very well, nobody will bother him like they would if he ran.
While I may not like gay marriage or civil unions between gays there is indeed a number of differences starting with how one files on the federal tax return. I don't see a place for legal unions on the return unless its changed (and that will be next).
