...is simply the easy way for Big Journalism to make it look like they are doing the important job which they claim is their mission...
Plus, let's not forget that many of these town criers are just plain stoopid...they're not afflicted by critical thinking...they are unencumbered by the thought process...they are carrying a light load...see where I'm going?
Certainly they often give that impression, since they studiously avoid broadcasting a complex thought. But I would caution that many people known to have high IQs - yea, even unto Albert Einstein - have been socialists. My take is that for journalists the survival value of "liberalism" is so high that "conservative reporter" is an oxymoron.

Orwell is credited with the saying that some things are so preposterous that only an intellectual could believe them. It seems that there is a division of labor within the Democratic Party - people who are of little distinction who are willing to accept the label "poor," and OTOH some of the richest and most influential people, are Democrats. Which leads to things like the "party of the little guy" having a higher average donation than "the party of the rich."

I sometimes wonder if the socialism of Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet, et al is not a form of conspicuous consumption.

"But I would caution that many people known to have high IQs - yea, even unto Albert Einstein - have been socialists."

I think a lot of those bright people were/are socialists by default, rather than committed socialists.

That is to say, their interests lie elsewhere, so when the scabby little rats from the English department buttonholed them and demanded obedience, they just said, "Yeah, yeah, okay, whatever, now get out of my lab."

I don't think any bright person who applied half the intellectual rigor to politics that he does to, say, physics, could remain a socialist.

But they don't care about it, and when later in life they try, they repeat all the historical mistakes they would have learned about in Philosophy 101...if they had taken it. See, for instance, "Dancing Wu Li Masters."

"I chuckle every time I read how easily Dr. Sowell rips the libs apart. What an awesome mind."

One of the smartest humans alive IMO.
