...and frankly, folks, I'm going to tell you: there's not a full-fledged, pure conservative out there in the race as of now. So the chosen candidate is going to be a compromise.
More!
You could have Duncan Hunter come out of nowhere. Newt Gingrich can pop out of nowhere and start dazzling people left and right as a full-fledged candidate. Who knows? It's still so, so early. In this presidential race, the earliness is going to end up being a detriment to this whole thing because people are going to be fed up with the presidential race before it actually ever gets started --
Be still my heart. Does Rush get it or what?
By situational politics I mean taking somebody who's not a conservative and calling them a conservative because they're "close enough," and in the process we're redefining conservatism. That's -- for those of us who believe in conservatism anyway, for the long haul that's -- not good.
It's deadly. Wake up, patriots, conservatives, Republicans, we must unite and be strong in principle. Compromise is death.
Howard Dean led John Kerry 40-12 in New Hampshire the month before the primary.
Seems to me the Rudy boosters can't deal with competition in the court of public opinion. And for good reason.
I truly can understand why you want Duncan Hunter out of the race sooner rather than later, given two recent polls that were more than just gauges of name recognition and popularity:

Half of voters (49 percent) say they are hoping there is someone new out there who they have yet to hear about who will enter the presidential contest. Republicans (53 percent) are a bit more interested than Democrats (46 percent) for someone new to come along.

(have to summarize, cannot post directly from Gannett)
Only twenty percent of pubbies knew that Rudy supports abortion rights and civil unions for gays.
Nearly as many pubbies thought Rudy was pro-life as thought he was pro-choice.
One in five pubbies said they would not support Rudy given his position on those subjects.
Another 25 percent of pubbies said those positions made them much less likey to support him.
-----------
All of these numbers bode very poorly for Rudy over the long haul as new faces step forward and more pubbies learn the truth about Rudy.
"Wake up, patriots, conservatives, Republicans, we must unite and be strong in principle."
Bravo!
I thought you MIGHT like that, Dolly.... hmmmmm....:)
Bumping your tagline too!!!
Here's hoping...
