I found this new image of Abraham Lincoln to be absolutely fascinating. It is definitely him but in a way we never saw before. However, knowing something of his biography, it does not surprise me that Lincoln had a sort of aristocratic bearing when younger bordering almost on arrogance at one time. Time gave him wisdom. Anyway, here is the full daguerreotype:

Wow! He was not bad looking (not really good looking either) but much more normal than I expected. I always heard that he was ugly, this surprises me.

Strange...everything in the younger Lincoln photo looks like the older one, except the nose. The nose doesn't look the same, even when giving allowances for aging.
He wasn't a bad looking guy. He's got that "butt" chin thing going on, just like my husband. ;)

Odd that the first Republican was kicked in the head by a member of the donkey family...

I see why he grew a beard. Weak chin.He did it at the suggestion of an 8-year old girl. He liked the results so much that he made sure to stop and thank her personally while he was out on campaign.
Great olde tyme photo op, that.

This picture came out a couple of years ago on Ebay and caused quite a debate in the Lincoln historical community. Someone did a computer analysis on it and determined that this was NOT Lincoln. I remember it well, because a couple of my colleagues and I had a very intense discussion about it at the time.

Granted, I'm no expert, but I don't buy it. Too many differences in things like the line of the nose, the upper lip, angle of the ears, distance between jawbone and ear, etc.

There's something creepy about that picture, what is it?He looks like Edgar Allan Poe's brother.

The nose is almost identical in both pictures. Normally with age, the nose grows longer so that explains the differences. The ears are identical so that is one dead giveaway. Also if you look at a picture of the latter 1840s when he was in Congress, you can see even more similarities with the first picture, especially in the identical cleft chins.
