Naturally she was appalled at both the lack of discretion displayed by the men, and the prospect of explaining to her child what they were doing."They are kissing. It is very tacky to do that in public. Now let's go see the giraffes."
A person who's easily flustered will never make it as a parent!

If I was with my child, and they asked me about two men making on in a park, I'd just tell my child the truth. That they were sinners and need Jesus (like we all do).

They should be reading "The Emperor's New Clothes".
At least that would teach them that pretending that the abnormal is normal does not make it so.

Sickening -- downright revolting.
But not funny.

Great answer.
Whatever happened to the idea of minding our own business? If two gay wanna do that in public, let them--the country isn't here to abide by my personal standards of behavior about such victimless situations.
If kids have been brought up so poorly that seeing two men making out destroys their morality for life, I'm not too impressed with the parent's abilities; I'm certainly not impressed with the power of the god they choose to worship when it comes to protecting his creations from "evil".

The problem with gay people is that they want to be the center of attention. They could not get that attention being straight, so they turn gay........

So, this is what the Voucher System has come to be about.

Perfect response. Tell the truth without making a big deal out of it (the kids will if you do), and move on. I don't particularly believe that an outing to the zoo with your 7 year old is the place to really delve into the issue.
Homosexuality has been a fact of human existence for all its recorded history. You'd think that after so much time, we'd be able to discuss it with our kids (with whatever degree of condemnation or not) without getting all flustered about it. I don't know about anyone else's kids, but my kids really liked to zero in on the topics with which I'm uncomfortable (the youngest is now 14 - we can speak more freely now).

The goat barn must have been closed.

To make matters worse, a father who was alarmed when his kindergartener was sent home with the book was arrested when he attempted to meet school officials.I don't have any problem with the concerns you express about homosexual activism in schools, but let's keep the stories accurate. Parker was not arrested for attempting to meet with school officials. He was arrested after the meeting for refusing to leave the school grounds. He was arrested because he wanted, as he said: "To make a point."

Eh, on a thread last year I think, with an indentical situation (young son instead of daughters though) a father said he'd have shot the men, so I guess that that option hasn't been mentioned is progress.
To: dmz
My answer to my 7 year old is to point and say those men are sick. They have a mental disorder, which is why they are acting that way. That should be the end of that kind of talk.

I must disagree. Minding one's own business these days is very often not an option, since many "agendas" in our society feel at my business is their business, too.
Do you smoke cigarettes in your car? Do you occasionally need to smack your toddler on the bottom? Do you live in TX and have a prepubescent daughter? Are you a MA parent who doesn't want homosexuality taught to your 5 yr. old son?
Why do you think any of this is solely your business in USA 2007?
A noblewoman in 17th century England famously said that she didn't care what people did together, as long as they didn't do it in the streets and scare the horses. To me, that is the essence of minding one's business. There is the public street and there is the privacy of one's home.
The many "agendas" don't feel that way. The anti-God people need the schools to undo what the parents teach in the home. The homosexuals need the children to accept every sexual depravity as normal. Homosexuality produces nothing, yet it needs a constant pool of fresh victims. Children are their preferred targets and taxpayer dollars help them seduce these children by cowing the public with accusations of bigotry.
Homosexuality is a mental illness. It doesn't matter that the AMA was forced to remove that designation by the homosex agenda. Part of that illness is exhibitionism. Just look around. Homosexuals are glorified and emboldened.
Two men kissing in a public park did, indeed, "scare the horses" in this case. Picture two men locked in a liplock and then picture a 7 yr. old girl witnessing it. The homosexuals simply didn't have the right to do that to the girl.

That is kind of my point - parents should be allowed to teach their children about these issues rather than the schools. The schools have their own agenda and that may not (probably will not) be the same as the parents as regards values, etc. I should have explained why I posted this. I am helping a group of people approach their school board because they are concerned with some of the books being used, etc. I used to be a teacher (which is why my friend called me in the first place) and I really wanted suggestions from you rather than being "vain." If there is anything you think I could add or any links that may be useful to me (or if you want to tell me this is a piece of garbage) then do so. I would rather be torn to shreds here than a public forum.

Tell your children that you are the person they go to for this kind of information, and the school is not. I tell mine that their disobedience in school only matters to me when it affects their academic progress. All of this other non-sense is just non-sense. If some 25 year old teacher wants to try and impose their liberal crap on my kids, they will fail. I've given my kids instruction to not follow direction when it comes to things like this. The consequences are menial, and unlasting.
Being scared into obedience is the downfall for most parents. Kids have to get into some trouble with the authorities to realize and learn how to stay out of trouble and what their rights really are - but don't tell them that.
