Just how fragile is Civilization anyway.
How often in the past 7 millennia have cities sunken beneath the waves and civilization just picked up and moved somewhere else.
Civilization is much more wide spread today than ever before. A huge percentage of the worlds population lives within 50 miles of the oceans coast. So what?
It is highly unlikely that the oceans level will rise overnight. Sea level will perhaps at worst rise over a decade and claim a few feet a year. Yes some very expensive real estate will fall in to the ocean but the rich will simply collect their insurance and build on the new coast.
More than likely the poor will be hardest hit. But they always are and nothing will ever change that.
Change is perpetual. You can not stop the future. If the polar ice caps melt civilization will adapt, conquer the new environment and emerge stronger and more prosperous than ever (provided capitalism remains the dominant economic model).
