If the windpower is spread over a wide enough area, the whole US for example, (and of course off the coast by the Kennedy compound!) this is less of a problem.

I would like to see a study, or at least an unbiased report of how severe the problem is that you pointed out.

Coastal wind patterns are different than what occures in west Texas.

I agree that studies need to be done.

Mandates, that's what I forgot.

Recently a coal fired plant had to agree to install a certain amount of windpower in order to get their permit.

That's just wrong, and infuriates me.

It also says to me that the proponents of wind power don't think it's worth a damn. Otherwise they wouldn't have to force it on us.

Good point here in Texas they generate at night when there is no load. When it gets hot in the daytime, they shut down.

That's interesting. As long as those things cannot operate in hot weather, they're not worth investing in unless they're located in northerly areas.

My understanding of wind power is that it is very finicky. If the wind is too slow, you don't get much power. If it is too fast, they need to be turned off.

No wonder these things need subsidies! With all that government gravy, there's no real incentive to come up with something that works on a regular basis!

My point exactly. They would not exist if not for the tax breaks they are getting. It is voodoo science. Idiots that are paying three time going market rate for power think they are helping. Not!
