The best thing we could do for farmers is to stop selling grain at rock bottom prices to the rest of the world.

I'll believe any savings when I see it. Sounds like cut and then add. What's with keeping subsidies on anything especially on sugar? I thought that this was supposed to be a capitalist nation and not socialist.

Let the market set the prices and the farmers would be a lot better off without subsidies. I'm not saying we should cut off poor starving nations or anything, just let the market regulate itself.

Who the hell is going to subsidize ME?
I've never taken a penny from my fellow taxpayer, I'm self-employed, single and punished for being successful. I'm taxed, double taxed, and triple taxed, they take so much from me that unless I start making HUGE money it's hard to get ahead of the game. I'm hoping to start making some huge money soon, and I'll be pi$$ed again at the huge chunk they take, unless you make enough money that it doesn't matter anymore.
There are roadblocks to the American Dream that never existed before.

It's about damn time. While he's at it, he should cut subsidies to poor farmers as well.
Who else gets money from their fellow taxpayers based on their inability to make a living?

Drive out west from the Twin Cities and you will encounter sugar beets, sugar refineries and a vast swath of very wealthy farmers who don't want their beet allocation disturbed. The soil in the beet growing area is the richest in the nation, maybe the world, but is "iffy" for corn. Besides, Uncle Sam will cover the worldwide spread on sugar vs. the US price guarantee.

Who else gets money from their fellow taxpayers based on their inability to make a living? You must not have thought too much on that subject before posting. There are a gazillion people in this country who do just that. Whether from an inability or simply because they don't want to.

The best thing we could do for farmers is to end all government subsidies and let the free markets work.

This is a good start. Subsidies should be eliminated entirely, but I'll take this for now.

I am speaking of every "entitlement" program since F.D.R. One of the huge ones, proposed by Nixon, signed into law by Ford and increased by every administration since then (without exception) is the huge transfer of wealth from those who pay to those who do not pay taxes, the negative income tax, The Earned Income Credit.

It will change nothing what it will do is landlords will switch over to cash rent and push the risk to the tenants

The Pentagon has called this a sophisticated and troubling assault and much more orchestrated than the usual attacks on U.S. and Iraqi forces. Because of that, military officials say they have strong suspicions that the Iranian government or elements of it may have been involved. Four of the five American soldiers were abducted before being shot execution style. This could bring matters to a head, if handled right. A perfect transition point.

My dad was a farmer up into the early 90's. I remember him getting paid not to plant some areas, or milo for wildlife and such.

That has changed and you can plant all you want and with the ethanol boom which is happening the program is not near as important
