Gee, I sure hope that when Castro dies nobody tells us that "he was a human being too" or that "it's just not right to celebrate the death of another human being" or "he showed class at the end" blah blah blah...

I take it this party won't be in "celebration of Castro's life" as most wakes are.

We had a full day of Cuban cooking yesterday, trying out recipes for our "Fidelito Muerto" observance ... date to be determined!

I could actually be convinced to hop on a plane when this happens, and join the fun. I have relatives I could stay with in Palm Beach. I plan to visit them anyway. Sounds like it's going to be a rockin' party. :)

could it be timed to coincide with the Super Bowl?
Party on dudes!

My parents-in-law live in Ft. Lauderdale. Depending on the date, it would be very tempting to declare a road trip!
At the very least, we'll be whooping it up here, in solidarity with our amigos Cubanos.

CNN will tearfully report how "right-wing conservatives" in Miami are "disrespecting" the loss of a world leader.

You raise a good point ... what to wear? If only we knew the date in advance!

The way her ratings are, Katie may not have her job when the Cubans get around to announcing that "el Jefe" is burning in hell.

The stadium is a bittersweet landmark in South Florida's Cuban-American experience. After the 1961 Bay of Pigs fiasco, more than 35,000 exiles gathered there to hear President John F. Kennedy promise a free Cuba. I was there at the Orange Bowl that day as a kid. Two of my uncles had returned from the Bay of Pigs invasion after being POW's. The veterans of Brigada 2506 sat together and, when, Kennedy promised a free Cuba, they all joined in a chant of "Guerra! Guerra!" ("War! War!") as they believed they would soon have another chance to fight again soon.
One of them did fight again soon, in two combat tours in Vietnam including the battle at Landing Zone X-Ray at the Battle of Ia Drang (the "We were Soldiers Once" battle).
Gee, I sure hope that when Castro dies nobody tells us that "he was a human being too" or that "it's just not right to celebrate the death of another human being"....
Well, maybe I will.
Wars are fought on many fronts and that includes the propaganda front. We should show the rest of the World we have the class Castro never did and celebrate the future of a free Cuba. In the end, even from a purely practical perspective, that will serve the needs of Cuba best.

G-d bless the Cuban community in Miami. I enjoyed my time in Little Havana very much. It was always a hoot to see some septagenarian geezer pinch the butt of some young lady. She would laugh too and pat him on the head.
