Its all a plot by the people who make beer for dogs... http://www.kare11.com/news/national/national_article.aspx?storyid=148786 Terrie Berenden hunts with her dogs, and realized they might want to relax after a long day with a beer, too. So she developed a beer for her Weimaraners made from beef extract and malt.

A couple of people on the thread commented that it is good legislation because it removes older legislation that restricted the business owner. I wish that were the case, but I'd bet this clown wants to force bar owners to allow the shivering dogs inside the pub and not make it discretionary.

That's how the Dems work. And, many Republicans lately.

So why doesn't he open a pup-friendly bar rather than forcing everyone else to?

My dog is so damn smart I bet I could teach him to drive me home when I've had to much to drink. Maybe this guy could force the DMV to give my dog a license too.

Bingo.

And the reason is, people historically in Europe TRAINED their dogs and EXPECTED them to be well-behaved. Probably because their cultures actually USED dogs for serious works.

None of this is true of the US.

Now, half of people in the US hate dogs because of the idiots that own them and treat them like babies (Dr. Spock babies, to be precise). Hence the bad behavior of dogs. Much like US kids, only that was spurred purely by Dr. Spock.

I thought the same way. We have a push to get smoking out of bars and replacing it with dog crap on the floor.

We are idiots in this country these days.

Exactly.

Actually, does there have to be a proposed LAW here? Or a proposal to rescind?

Rescinding would be a true act of increasing freedom!

From a longer AP article:
The bill would allow bars and restaurants with liquor licenses to welcome dogs, as long as they accompany their owners and remain leashed. Establishments wouldn't be required to allow dogs, except for service animals.

The article also says that Washington currently doesn't allow dogs in restaurants for health reasons. Dogs shed and don't use the toilet.

Well nobody has funded junk science studies to prove the hopeful theory that dog smell kills millions of children each year in this country.
Maybe PETA will fund one?

A lot of people are allergic to animals.

Absolutely. While I'd personally rather sit in a bar with dogs, and no smoke, than vice versa, others no doubt would prefer it the other way around. I'm all for letting the owners decide, and letting the market handle the rest.

Pass the law--instant designated driver! "Yes, officer, my dog does have a license but I don't know why he swerved to hit the deer on the shoulder."

People shed too. In fact, their "dander" is easily exposed as it comes right off the skin into the air.

Dogs don't use the toilet but almost all ARE potty-trained. That means they won't go but outside and their owners should be aware of when they need to go.

Big deal.

How ever did we survive all these thousands of years?

A public hearing on the dog-friendly bar bill is slated for later this month.

When they let the smokers back in out of the cold, come talk to me about dogs.

Right you are.

I'm curious to hear about Balto places with dogs. I've not heard of such a thing. Lived here all my life.

I'm thinking . . . . Fox & Hound Pub.

They'd need some, uhh, foxes to complete the picture.
