Oh, so now mentioning that Reagan was a Democrat, was pro choice and signed what at the time was the most liberal abortion policy in the country is bashing?

You've called people Bush-bashers for far less, Peach.

This from the man who bashes the actual CURRENT, living president in a time of war. Oh my goodness. You really are delusional. And that's the nicest thing I can say.

Political depravity? ROFL. I mean, on the FLOOR.

Try the gutter instead. I've never seen someone bashed for not signing a bill they never got.

When freepers 24/7 bash the president, yup, I'll call them Bush bashers. Did I hate Reagan? Absolutely not. He was a great president.

But he wasn't perfect and this re-writing of history as though he didn't raise taxes FOUR times and enlarge the government is a fallacy that hasn't done Republican presidents to follow Reagan any good because nobody can live in the footsteps of re-written history.

I really don't understand it. Peach decided early on to hijack this pro-life, anti-abortion, and pro-Reagan thread, to preach her moderate politics onn the internets premier conservative website. Go figure. Btw, political depravity was a good choice of terms.

Ah, so if a pubbie president is dead, you can criticize him, even to the absurd level of ripping him for not signing a bill he never got.

But someone is NOT allowed to criticize the current pubbie president, even on issues that have nothing to do with national security.

Gotcha.

Just a correction: A bill Reagan never even asked for.

Lots of presidents give State of the Union addresses and ask for pie things they know they'll never get. But they ask anyway to let the American people know which issues they think are important enough to at least ask for.

No one is rewriting history, except for you.

Reagan cut federal income taxes 25% across the board. Reagan reduced the top tax rate from 70% to 28%. Reagan never raised federal income taxes. Not once. When Reagan left office, he had cut federal spending by 1.0% of GDP. Today, federal spending is up 1.8% per GDP, and the top tax rate is 35%.

A bill Reagan never even asked for.

And he would have gotten it from a Dem-controlled House?

You've spent the entire thread ripping into Reagan - I guess you think you can make Romney look better by making Reagan's legacy look worse.

Had the roles been reversed and this had been a speech by Bush, you would have savaged critics who tried to hijack the thread for their own political reasons as you have done here.

women who are more fortunate than you.

Did you retire because of luck or did you earn it? Fortunate implies luck.

By the way...I am jealous. LOL

We had good jobs and saved between 36-38% of our gross income for 20 years. The one bit of good luck that came our way, if it can be so crassly put that way, is that an elderly aunt passed away and left my husband her house and money. We gave the house to my stepson and the money to my stepdaughter.

Oh, let's play your stupid game for a minute. You mentioned that Reagan never would have gotten the bill with a Democrat controlled Congress but didn't mention that I said "He should have asked for it during a SOTU address in order to let the American people know what he thought was important".

Does that mean you're politically depraved? I think that was your rather hysterical term when you thought I wasn't telling the "whole" story on Reagan and abortion.

No, it means you are politically ignorant on this particular supbject:

http://www.afajournal.org/2004/january/104death.asp

Partial birth abortion is a relatively new procedure. It was largely unknown prior to the discovery in 1992 of an instruction paper on how to perform it written by abortionist Martin Haskell of Ohio.

Hmmm. 1992. Reagan had been out of office nearly four years. But you are trying to make a point by saying Reagan never asked for a ban on something the public HAD NO AWARENESS OF.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Well, you've made your first good point of the day. Congratulations.

And you were too eager to bashReagan to bother seeing if your criticism in that department was the least bit warranted by history.

Oh, you mean like freepers who constantly post about how Reagan was the only true conservative despite the fact that he raised taxes FOUR times, grew government, ran from Lebanon, etc.? Okay.

You ought to change your screen name from Peach to Bitter Grapes. You were dissing Reagan for not asking for a PBA ban when there was no awareness of such back then. In other words, you attemtped to promulgate a complete falsehood to try and tear Reagan down enough to make Romney look better. And that is really and truly pathetic. Romney needs to win by rising towards Reagan's legacy, not by tearing it down.

I said on another thread that the only pubbies I would not vote for at this point are McCain and Ron Paul (and Hagel if he jumps in).

However, Romney needs to show he is serious about being a conservative instead of just giving the subject lip service. Because if he wins and it was all just blather, he'll be a one-termer like Bush the Elder.

Congrats. Kudos to you and anyone who can manage a marriage. Mine has been a disaster and has just about ruined me. I am going the opposite direction. I will be working till I am an old fart.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'd rather be single than in a bad marriage.
