There our only allies there.

On CNN they said US commanders believe the Medhi Army was behind the attack and given it happened deep inside the Shia holy city of Karbala they are almost certainly right.

Apparently not confirmed... but since it's in Kerbala it is almost certainly the mahdi "army".

this has to be the last straw now for Sadr - I had thought he would back off.

its time to "surge" - its now or never.

If we did the job in Najaf these folks would be alive. What a bungled PC operation this has been.

The Surge can't mean more troops are simply going to be doing Abizaid style tasks like manning check points and going on humvee patrols.

We have to actually kick ass the way we did during major combat operations. We need to consider this time period one of major combat operations.

It took three years, but the WH finally is hopefully devesting itself of the Abizaid style of warfighting.

"I can only imagine the restraints that were placed upon the soldiers,so as not to be the bad guys again. My guess would be that many constraint's were imposed, likely in the form of a"PC"action response, caused the harm of our own Men and Women.I hope that is not the case."

That's why I am becoming disenchanted with the handling of the war. While I'm not advocating cut and run, I am tired of our soldiers putting their lives on the line every day in another PC war.

Lost count of the number of times I've said the same thing. If it doesn't happen soon I'm going to start making impeach bush sign's.

The subtitle is not substantiated by the contents of the article. The article says it was a Shia meeting that was attacked, but in no way identities the attackers. There is no reason to believe they were Mehdi army, at least from what is cited here.

Rot. When a Shia mosque is blown up it happens in a Shia district, but does not mean Shia did it. Similarly when a Shia political meeting is attacked. We do not know. Pretending we do is a blood libel.

Read post 26.

No better yet let me repost it for you

"On CNN they said US commanders believe the Medhi Army was behind the attack and given it happened deep inside the Shia holy city of Karbala they are almost certainly right."

Considering the attack was in Karbala it was either the Badr militia or the Medhi Army. Those are the only two Shia militias and Karbala is a Sunni no go zone. Also, we are allied with the Badr militia's leader and he was in Washington meeting Bush last month. The chance the Badr militia did this is almost zero which leaves one other Shia militia.

That's the problem with Counter batterry fire and mortar tubes. They are so mobile that in the 2 minutes it takes to mount a countery battery fire mission the bad guys are gone. What is most disturbing is many of these mortar targets are preregistered in courtyards with range and azimuth settings.

Precisely. This is what we were looking for. Moqtada and his Boyos will end up like Hydrox cookies for this. They attacked a meeting put together to assure the safety of Azhura Pilgrims.

Not smart. Bad Mojo.

The guy should have made a deal with us months ago. Now, he's toast. Thing is, the Moqtada probably had nothing to do with this. I bet the Iranians did this behind his back because they want him dead as a Martyr. He's probably become too ambitious and has become somewhat useless to the Persians.

Dead Men Tell No Tales, don't you know.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Killing Sadr will make little difference any more than the deaths of Uday and Quasy did. The Militias and insurgents aren't organized hierarchically. They operate in a social network. The way to destroy them is to get OUR insurgents inside their social network.
