"seeing as those who asked didn't seem to find it sufficiently compelling to act."

Sorry to be so cynical but... Nobody wants to act when it's so much more fun to heap adulation on shallow action "heros" turned opportunistic Governators like Jesse "the body" Ventura and Arnold "the liberal Repellican" Schwartzenfooler!!!

We're taught not to be selfish, to be generous. I think that in terms of personal and societal relationships, its a necessary and desirable quality of human existence. On the other hand, the kind of selfishness I despise most is that displayed by government, which doesn't allow any room for individual human judgment, creativity, initiative ot freedom.

ya have to wonder how much subliminal messaging was used in his movies and how many have been affected or were susceptible to it.

separating fantasy and reality is hard to do for some.. especially when they use paid shills to subordinate and "win over" new minions for those who push crap onto unwitting masses like a few seem to have chosen to do in order to gain power. jmo.

At the risk of being considered inconsistent, I can't really disagree with a thing you said... All things considered. I consider "selfishness," to simply mean thinking, acting and analyzing in one's own enlightened self interest.

I rarely practiced altruism with my children by giving them everything they asked for, or even helping them with loans and such, reminding them I'd rather be their father than their banker!

I would also remind them that if I kept helping them at every turn, it wouldn't really help them permanently and would eventually weaken me to where I wouldn't really be able to help them any longer and THEN who would they turn to for help?

This goes to liberalism vs conservatism. Liberals think it's harsh to teach a man to fish, rather than to supply him with fish till he's in the habit of coming to you for fish like a pavlovian dog... What do you think of that???

This same thinking can be found in Arnold's dumb mandatory "healthcare by more GovernMental lovers!" (I just invented that expression but it's not copyprotected)

"Those who don’t want elective cosmetic surgery wouldn't buy that policy."

One of the largest CA health insurers that I use has done a very good job of what you suggest in this paragraph. But the problem that develops is... Some political whore in the legislature thinks EVERYBODY should be covered for maternity and gets a law passed forcing that on EVERYONE applying for individual or family coverage that might include any mensturating females!!!

I offer this in support of the theme of your excellent essay, Sir!!!

Say now... That's a pretty sinister suspicion to consider!!! I wonder... Well, no I don't. Have you checked the viewership ratings of the golden globe awards as opposed to all other TV that ran during those hours? I was shock, stunned and amazed, my FRiend!!!

They were 28% higher than everything else combined!!! Now with that kind of downright "celebrity worship"(literally!) he wouldn't even NEED subliminal messaging to have the ability to cloud not only women's minds,(sorry girls) but men's as well.(really!) Kinda like "The Shadow" on the old-time radio show... Ha Ha Ha Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! (remember that sinister laugh?)

I don't belive I have heard of HSA. What is it?

It is a method of paying for your healthcare without paying tax on the money you spend to do so. HSA's are tied to a high deductable, major medical policy. You contribute to a fund, actually an interest bearnig checking account, equal to the amount of the deductable. You use these funds to pay for your day to day medical needs, i.e. doctors visits, prescription drugs, etc, up to the amount of your deductable. You do not pay Federal Income Tax on this money. If you reach your deductable, the insurance kicks in. If you have money left over in your fund at the end of the year, it is yours to keep, tax free or you can roll it over into next year. I pay less than $150/month for both my wife and myself for major medical coverage and we are in our mid 40's. Google HSA. You will get thousands of hits. It puts the control back into your hands....

Every time I see one of those I get the urge to get one, have it chrome plated, and put a couple of big pieces of fiberglass toast sticking out of the roof.

Thanks for some Jeffersonian quotes that Democrats and the ACLU
NEVER include in their adulation of the mortal they consider the
immortal apostle of "Separation of Church and State" (as in "the right
to freedom from even a mention of religion or morality").

Some Republicans should review these quotes as well.

Free access to somebody else's earnings for any reason is not a right. Including for health insurance.

People don't like extreme selfishness embodied as a philosophy of life.

Then I would expect people to object to the selfishness of liberals that steal the fruit of others' labors. Who's selfish, the one who earns it, or the one who, through the strength of government steals it unearned?

Have you checked the viewership ratings of the golden globe awards ...

Have you seen the number of page-hits on FR for the American Idol threads?
Same phenomena.

Do you mean these types of Quotes?

Say nothing of my religion.
It is known to God and myself alone.
Its evidence before the world is to be sought in my life: if it has been honest and dutiful to society the religion which has regulated it cannot be a bad one.
Thomas Jefferson

I never told my religion nor scrutinize that of another.
I never attempted to make a convert nor wished to change another's creed.
I have judged of others' religion by their lives,
for it is from our lives and not from our words that our religion must be read.
By the same test must the world judge me.
Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)

The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others.
But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god.
It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.
Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826), Notes on the State of Virginia, 1781-82
