If a Democrat gets elected President you can bet the next carrier will not be named after a Republican.

The only problem is the second they put the word Ford on it they will have nothing but quality issues forever after...

And to think it took five posts before someone thought of the blue oval

Since the next carrier (CVN 79) is lead ship of the new class of carriers (i.e. post-Nimitz class), do you suppose it will be the Ford class of carrier?

I am sick of naming any naval vessels after mediocre Presidents. How about real names such as Lexington, Saratoga, or Leyte Gulf?

Hmmm. When this carrier is christened, perhaps attendees and sailors can all wear Ford's old "WIN" button only this time it will mean, "Whip Islamofascists Now".

They had best install extra large stabilization planes, we don't want the thing tripping in heavy seas!!!

When a Dem becomes President, be prepared for the next vessel being named "Jimmy Carter"! (Although I doubt a Dem will built any vessels...)
Seriously, I agree with you. We should give our ships the names of battles, American Heroes and great Naval Officers.

There already is a USS Jimmy Carter - SSN-23, if memory serves.
What we really need is a USS Richard M. Nixon.

Yep, I agree with you. Here in Canada our navy has taken to naming ships after cities but I'd love to see a fleet with names like Joseph Brant, Tecumseh, Billy Bishop, Guy Simmonds etc.

"Carter's statesmanship, philanthropy and sense of humanity earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. " A shame to read this on the Navy site... and a shame to name anything after this traitor.

What we really need is a USS Richard M. Nixon. It would probably be forced to decommission itself.
