Sigh. Is this sourced? Why did it need this "Presidential" approval? Why weren't they already authorized to do "Whatever it Takes"?
This implies fairly clearly that there were political hand-cuffs on our troops...and these restrictive rules of engagement are still there...with the ultimate micro-managing still being reserved for the White House and Foggy Bottom.
This kind of mistaken administrative notion of how to wage war, is symptomatic of a lack of trust of the commanders on the ground...a clear contradiction of every assurance previously given.

Oh, man, I so got that beat. Hatch out about 50,000 Velociraptors, like in Jurassic Park, program them to only eat people with metal or hard plastic on their person. The Raptors have webcams cybered in, all you do is pop the popcorn.

Don't stop until we are in Tehran.

It shouldn't have even been a consideration. Causing trouble? Get taken out.
But then again, Sadr is still running around.

Heck, they raided our Embassy (in '79). I see this as a move
to de-escalate tension!
