I wholeheartedly agree.
I think it's more to avoid a disastrous cut off of oil supplies to Western Europe and Japan more than say, China.
I don't think that we'll have any Iranian forces attacking us in an organized manner; we’ll not get into that. They will be decimated by air, west to east.

I think if we decimate their nukes and military infrastructure, say, in a month or two of an air war, the regime will be taken over by left-over military who, together with the people, didn't want to be humiliated and broke over Iraq and the nuke madness. At least, that's what I hope.
If the regime survives intact, it will have a rough time keeping order and the assassinations will take a heavy toll on them.

OK, but you still need to keep the persian gulf open. iran has a large number of anti ship missiles hidden in places along the gulf coast - hard to detect, small, mobile, can pop out and start detroying supertankers at will.

Well, we can convey supertankers out and just run forces along the coast and declare a free firezone along that point. Hell, maybe we should just build a pipeline from western Iran up to the Black Sea through Kurdistan.
What I saw on Fox said B-1s....they targeted east of Baghdad near the Iranian border...acording to the little map Fox showed.
