If you want to change every newspaper's stance on increasing the minimum wage just remove the paper boy exception to the Minimum wage.

Just add a provision that all newspapers have to pay delivery personel the minimum wage and even the New York and LA Times will sudddenly find that an increase in the minimum wage is extremely harmful to the economy.

They will define the economy as newpaper profits and a minimum wage for newpaper carriers would certainly cut into newspaper earning or add to newspaper loses as the case may be.

The POINT is that Nancy Pelosi's husband sits on the Board of Del Monte, and is a major stockholder in the company! She will directly benefit from Starkist's profits!

Frankly, I don't care about whether the American Samoans will benefit from this or not. The point is that Pelosi's husband is a direct beneficiary of this exemption, and thus, so is she!

No, the ARTICLE says nothing about her husband sitting on the board.

And I think you have a problem distinquishing between directly and indirectly benefiting..

But I'm glad you're concerned about the White Man's Problem..

My mistake...I should have said "thread" instead of article.

I have no idea of what the "White Man's Problem" is that you are referring to.

The lack of concern about American Samoa, unless it can be shown to embarass the Democratic Party..

But the problem in implying Pelosi is benefiting is that Federal Minimum Wage is just now reaching the Marianas, who have a Federal Court.

American Samoa doesn't, and has it's own Minimum Wage Board. Which no one cares about this thread, 'cause it's all about showing hypocrisy with the Democrats being in charge..

That's right! It IS about the hypocritical behavior of the democrats!

Frankly, I don't believe in the minimum wage for ANYONE. The discussion we are having is why Pelosi would champion an exemption, and the answer isn't her concern about people in American Samoa, that's for sure.

If there are concerns which should be addressed about conditions in American Samoa, please post an article or an essay about such things, and they can be addressed.

Anyone know the average income in Samoa? $7+ p/h might be like $20 in Oregon. I would imagine the cost of living is pretty low.

Isn't this a very expensive area in which to live? Wouldn't workers need the increased minimum wage here as much as most any place in the country? I'm on the East Coast, so I'm not sure.

I can't imagine what could make it change back.

It will take a change it attitude. The people need to realize that the government is not here to help us. The government is here to help itself, these days. Any crumbs that fall from the table are brushed over the side so we'll continue to vote for them.

People need to trust politicians less. Then need to know, on a basic level, that they will pay for anything they get from the government several times over.

Government spending is a negative-sum game. Republicans have been trying to convince people that government as a zero-sum game is unfair and discourages production and investment, etc. What we have to realize is that it is a negative-sum game, where wealth is lost every time it passes through a government hand.

Well, I just got home and turned on the news and lo and behold, Pelosi is changing the legislation so that American Samoa is no longer exempt.

Now that she's been caught!

Maybe you all know this and it's not breaking news, but I can't read the thread at the moment and have to run right back out.

Good research, everyone!

...and I have neither the time not the inclination to list anything specific.

Then I suggest you refrain from making claims here that you have no time or interest in substantiating.
That is, if you wish to be taken seriously. Otherwise, post away.

Cheers.

Please feel free to suggest away. If you require substantiation, do it yourself, as I'm not going to go back 6yrs and glean info that only you request.
