And we're not really that motivated in terms of space exploration at the moment.

What! You don't believe in the President's Moon/Mars initiative? Shame on you.

Does it really matter? The President barely has two years left and let's say he's distracted at the moment.

But-but, it's a long term commitment any future president would surely honor.

OK wisenheimer's, who wrote a book about the Moties, as in mote in God's eye? I started reading it years ago but lost the book, and I'm not even certain thats the correct title. Anyone?

Crap! Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. Looked it up on google which I should have done before I shot off my mouth in the previous post.

Nevin has a free E-book, kind of a fun read, "Fallen Angels", it's what I would imagine the world would be like if the characters from Democrat Underground ran things.

I'm waiting for ram-scoops anyway before I get excited.

I'm cautiously excited about the latest news from the inventer of the ram-scoop, Robert Bussard. He has proposed a smaller, cheaper, faster fusion technology that fuses Boron-11 to protons resulting in just energy and Helium. For those who want more details he has a 90 minute video presentation. Although I respect Bussard, I don't claim to know enough physics to be able to validate his claims. I doubt we'd run out of Boron any time soon. 80% of it is the desired isotope. The current largest producers are Turkey, which has the largest known reserves, and the US.

Even better, the comedy "Idiocracy" - what the U.S. would be like if DU ran things long enough. Actually, it's pretty realistic - the movie shows moron voters have elected a bodybuilder/wrestler president of the U.S. California has already reached this stage of "Idiocracy".
