It's money that was paid INTO the social security system by the mexicans who did the work, or their employers.

You may want to punish them for illegal activity by denying them the money (although this applies also to legal immigrants who also pay social security, it is part of a broader program which allows countries to transfer money collected for retirement back to the country where people live and will retire),

But this isn't absurd on its face, there is a rational basis for the program, and it should be debated on its merits, not dismissed as too bizarre to understand.

>>A confidential 2004 agreement between the United States and Mexico<<

Why is everything confidential between the United States and Mexico with this President? Doesn't he trust the people who elected him?

I think I asked this somewhere earlier...even if Bush did not sign this deal...isn't it true that anything close to S2611 does the same thing?

Under Senate Bill 2611, illegal aliens will collect Social Security benefits based on past work, regardless of their ability to demonstrate what, if any, payments they had made into the system and even if they did so using a stolen Social Security number.

Under Senate Bill 2611, illegal aliens will be forgiven their Social Security fraud, even though such fraud is normally punishable by fines of up to $500,000 and five years in prison for American citizens.

Under the provisions of S. 2611, illegal aliens would become indemnified in our nation's Social Security program, and be guaranteed to receive Social Security benefits as long as they live, even if they return to their home country.

"We need to call, write, mail, email and then call again our congressmen."

Just what good is that going to do? The election is passed and they are once again very comfortable. Ask the two BP Agents who are headed to prison under this compassionate administration.

How can we the people start to fix this mess?

Vote in a Republican House. Oppps. Did that; didn't work. [Prescription Drug Bill, et al]

Vote in a Republican President. Oppps. Did that; didn't work.

Vote in a Republican Senate. Oppps. Did that; didn't work. [CFR, Comprehensive Immigration Bill, et al]

Do you think it's time for a 3rd Party yet or is it too soon? Shall we all try the Constitution Party

What the h3ll are these people (the Bush administration) thinking?????

GW and the Republicans have been on a 6 year spending spree. So why not include illegal aliens? That's the thinking.

Disability goes to those who are of working age, but cannot work for some qualified physical or sometime mental reason. It is not easy to get as some decry in all cases, and takes a average time of a year or more of appeals to get it if you don't have a recent working history, which is why lawyers get involved.

What is happening to her is that she was not working at all prior to her claim and this indicates that she is not a qualified disabled worker. You must be a worker to get SSI. She has to go through a long appeal process, and may or may not be successful, but I doubt it.. SSI is a temporary measure to pay a person while he/she is recovering from some disability.

I cannot see how this is possibly true. Many elderly immigrants come here and get on SSI disability in a few years. 3 I think. Their children lie and tell the USA that they won't let their elderly parents become public charges. They have no work history here. Chinese and Russians are notorious from pulling this stunt. The children often make plenty of money but get their parents on SSI disability and Medicare or Medicaid

"nice post. ping for later...

Thanks. Hopefully, more people will read this or at least portions of it. This is the only official article I have found to be truly non partisan. It could be that the only reason Bush hasn't signed this and submitted it to Congress is due to the GAO report. They have stricly uncovered the risks and potential corruptness of the Totalization Agreement with Mexico.

Again, any Freeper reading this, read the second paragraph as it explains who is eligible "unaurthorized workers" for American Social Security benefits.

Scroll down to page 13 of 35. The GAO discredits the SS rationale for the $78 million costs.

Then scroll down to the chart regarding the previous countries that we have agreements with. It shows 11 countries where we have either under estimated or overestimated the number of people. Portugal was underestimated by 600%. We can't afford even a 25% mistake with Mexico and we don't have a clue as to how many illegals are here.

Truthfully, that "compassionate conservative" label made me ill the first time I heard it. And all I can say is it was better than the alternative. Freakin' sad.

Both the Totalization Agreement with Mexico and S2611 are bad.

There are a few (probably minor to the OBL) differences. In the SS agreement Mexico will be the only country that it citizens can come to the U.S. and work only one and a half years (18 month) and be eligible for SS benefits. Some of the bennies are for Mexicans only if I understand it correctly. I'll have to do more research to back this up as my computer crashed and I had to restore. I lost a lot of research.

You are probably right that S2611 is close to this and we should shout loudly when Bush and his cronies (the Dems) try to push a comprehesive plan down our throats. We need to scream social security.
