but she couldn't have a more wonderful family. I am awed by their conduct.

I have never seen a more loving, wonderful family. They seemed to take turns being there for their mom...I share your awe...

I am so sad for Betty. She will have to return to CA without her husband and it will not be easy for her to return to Michigan on a regular basis. At least Nancy gets to visit Ronnie regularly.

Thanks for the pictures. I was wondering where Steve was at the end, could not see him on the t.v., but note that he was behind his Mother.

He is a wonderful VP and I hope he gets much more exposure in the next 2 years.

Not to sully this beautiful thread, but I ventured over to the networks after Fox's coverage finished and CBS had highlights of all the ceremonies. Of course they showed the Bubba eye wiping fake tear moment. And the front page photo in the NY Times today was the one where only Hill has her hand over her heart.

It seems that no one can give a eulogy or speech anymore without getting political.

I noticed that the man that spoke right after Pres. Carter, the guy in charge of Pres. Ford's museum, started his speech by saying that "no one could accuse Pres. Ford of being an imperialist president"...

Which I immediately took as a slam at Pres. Bush...but then I heard someone on Brit's panel comment that at one point, Pres. Ford was accused of that during his presidency.

It just shows how sensitive I have gotten to anything that sounds like a slight to Pres. Bush...it just seems like anyone who stands in front of a camera these days tries to get their poke at the current Administration.

The Imperial Presidency is a reference to a historian, I think Schelisinger, who attacked Johnson and Nixon for adopting a sort of super-Presidency.

I don't know what Brit said, but there was a 21-gun salute, then four planes flew over, one of which veered off in the missing man formation.

Yes I was wondering where he was too.

Betty is stronger than the kids.

Someone mentioned the other day that she was riding to the church in Palm Desert and she told one of the boys to "buck up, we have a lot to do"

Yes. The Ford's Minister who spoke both yesterday and today said the same thing. Most inappropriate. Besides, I thought JC was a Baptist. The point was being made about the Episcopal Church. As for the Baptists, I bet lots of them winced to hear ol' Jimmuh say that such matters shouldn't be "divisive".

Yes, I think CSPAN always quotes its schedule in Eastern time.

You're welcome Lucy, my pleasure.

Best to keep myself busy at the moment anyway.

Maybe you don't remember or aren't old enough...the accusation of an "imperial presidency" was made about Richard Nixon, who had fancy uniforms made for the White House guards that looked like something out of a Grand Duchy. That is what he was referring to.

CSPAN was wonderful. If it's repeated tonight, watch it; you'll enjoy it more than FOX.

Whenever I hear people tell me we shouldn't let such matters be "divisive', I always figure they mean I should shut up and let them do whatever they want to.

How come promoting gay marriage isn't divisive? Hmmm?

Good question. This is code wording for allowing virtually any standard to be breached, to never label the standard-breachers as divisive, only the ones who stand against them.
