Decreased costs are reflected in market prices. With each industry the lead time varies. As you said, the only way the government can reduce cost is by reducing the government's cut. Well, there is a second way but it's a road to ruin -- price fixing. You'd think the politicians would take a lesson from from history of the railroad industry which most of the problems government meddling created in the first place. Well, the politicians did learn from history. But what they learned was that they could be the root-cause of the problem and yet cover that factoid up and instead lay the blame on the railroad industry. Which in turn they -- politicians -- could put another feather in their cap for solving a problem -- a non-existent problem that they created in the first place.

Does anyone remember what happened to the markets when Billy C targeted "Big Microsoft" hoping to extort campaign contributions from Billy G?

There is no such thing as "renewable" energy or energy "conservation".
Sure there is. Remember that scene in "Around the World in 80 Days" when they got stuck in America traveling from the west coast to the east coast using a sail on a railroad work car??
Same principle applies here: Put a sail on your Honda and stick your head out the window and blow!!!! Voila!! Renewable energy (as long as you're still breathing)!!!

Democrats will do what they can to raise the price of fuel and get kudos for dumping on Big Whoever at the same time. Raising the price of fuel, preferably by a multiple is a step towards curbing mobility and enhancing population control. Libs hate it that the peasants can just go any damn where they please- just jump in their cars and go. Libs hate it that the peasants can afford cars. It ain't natural. Natural is the Nobility that compassionately takes care of the peasantry. Libs LOVE the Homeless.
