This concerns me quite a lot... this kid evidently has a lot of gang-banger friends, is juvenile hall secure enough to hold him?

Your post contains much of Steve Bessants statement given to the press after the arraignment. Not Guilty Plea For Teen Accused Of Fatally Shooting Oceanside Police Officer contains the best video I've seen with most of Steve's statement. But I've gotten the Hedgecock show to put the audio of the whole statement on Rogers Best Of Page. I think Steve was most elegant in his statement. This being only the first week since Dan was shot, Steve held his composure well.

AZ Carolyn, not to worry about a prison break. The North County Hoosegow is pretty substantial. Running wouldn't be healthy, don't you know.

The Viewing was extremely solemn. It looked like Dan in the coffin but somehow not like Dan. The lifeless shell of the man we knew. There were many family members and friends there before public viewing began at 5:00. Tomorrow is going to be hard.

Recommended reading for you who are interested Officer Down Memorial Page There are 11 pages at this posting. While there are many well wishes from people who didn't really know Dan, there is a rich salting of those who knew him and participated in life with him.

My son and I will be following the court appearances and keep you posted.

I'll hitchhike on Steve's thanks for all the prayers for family and friends. I'm included in that group.

Thanks for the posting. Have been following this also here in San Diego.
Death should be slow and painful for the the shooter.
I am a ret. Legal Support Asst. with the County Attys. and people should only know what is going on out there.
