I very recently joined and am still learning how to navigate this site....forgive me....I'm a retired ballet dancer/teacher and computer stuff is another world far removed from barre and studio and stage.

I am also a writer - with a specialty in dance: critique/features/interviews. But I write lots of other things, too.

This site was sent to me by someone I sit next to at Torah Study every Saturday morning. There are a few of us conservatives at our Temple. I have two conservative bumper stickers on my car and it sits in silent acclamation of my beliefs in the Temple parking lot.

This evening at the Hanukah Sabbath Service, I shall indeed be wearing red. Red - in gratitude to our brave military and our wonderful country, without whom I personally would not be alive.

Thank you.

just back from store & running out again shortly.. but first of all .. a big welcome to you..

second.. I was a dancer also.. years ago. Auditioned for George Balanchine - made the NYCB BUT living on 25/week at age 16 in NYC (when parents couldn't help) was out of question.

You might enjoy visiting & sharing on this thread that I posted this morning on Happy Hanukkah 2006

Happy Hanukkah

Welcome, Basheva! I was afraid to even touch a computer for a long time! I learned a lot just posting and watching here. You will find on other threads people fight like crazy at times over who is a conservative, what the most important acts are for Congress. how to fight the war,and it can get pretty heated..but not here on the Finest.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome and the beautiful Menorah.

DollyCali: when did you audition for Balanchine? Was this for the school or did you make it into the company as corps de ballet or apprentice? Were you a graduate of the School of American Ballet (the Company's school)?

NYCB seldom tours, but I did see them several years and ago and reviewed them. One of my friends is a retired NYCB principal dancer - she retired in the 1960's and is still in great shape and very beautiful.

I auditioned in early 60s. GB came to Cleveland. Marjorie Sherman, my teacher had made arrangements for any one who wanted to audition to participate. This was before the wonderful avenue of Email, but the word spread anyway.

It was really an rude awakening. I was pretty sheltered & GB & Maria Tallchief with him were fairly harsh & the language out of their mouths was such as I had NEVER heard before..

Looking forward to getting better acquainted with you.. Today is not a good day. Will be posting the singles thread later after my dog walk & then out for PM

Welcome Basheva. Your homepage sounds so interesting, Mama_Bear and I are also big on History. If you enjoy writing you have a platform to do that here and I hope that you will sometime in the future.
