OR let the Sunni fight the Shiites and we can clean up when they are done. It may come to that.

I think Bush has to move fast and violently and take the short term political hit to change this into a win for America, Iraq and the West. He needs to think like Lincoln and find a Gen. Sherman to turn loose on Iraq. I think there is still time to save this effort. I just worry that Bush isnt up to the task.
I give up, you win. I've tried to discuss this reasonably with you and we're just going to have to walk away from this discussion. Iraq isn't WWII and the media has successfully fought this war to defeat. The sheeple and the daily "news" poll rule the political landscape and slash and burn combat tactics may win wars overseas, but they lose supporters at home. That's the political reality Bush faces. He tried it your way and the media turned it into an election landslide for the "loyal opposition". Draw your own conclusions.

There was a wonderful post yesterday regarding polls (spit) that I couldn't remember when we were discussing the issue. I just found it and wanted to share it with you all. Thanks UCANSEE. You did a great job of summarizing the poll (spit) question.
POLLS are not a measure of what an informed public knows and believes about a subject.
They are the measure of how well the brainwashing by the MSM is working.

Good points. I also think that we took recent military operations (Afghanistan, Kosovo and Bosnia) as templates and we thought that we could win without an overwhelming presence on the ground-that was pretty much the emerging doctrine that the "transformationists" and "Revolution in Military Affairs" types were putting forth.
I thought that a Republican administration would substantially increase the size of the Army when it came into power-especially after 9/11, but Rummy had other ideas. That was probably the most serious mistake the administation has made.
