Are some of those still flying around to air shows? It looks like something that flew over my house to a local air show fly-in recently here in Texas.

SEE ALL THAT LAND east of Miramar?(MIRAMAR is the Blue area)
San Diego Developers are salivating.
IF the military was ever kicked out, they could build on that buffer zone east of Miramar. That is why they have enflamed the public to try to take over Miramar as an International Airport.

One of my finest memories was tending bar (my off-duty job) at the "Casa Coqui Officer's Club" at Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico.
Ever been there?

As a native of San Diego, the developers can take a hike.
There are thousands of homes and businesses around Miramar arleady.
Miramar is needed as the jets and choppers are parts of the strike forces here, i.e. USS Reagan & Nimitz and the assult ships, etc.
We don't newer International airport. the one we have now is just fine.

I have intentionally avoided RR - I was mostly a West Coast guy.

Most likely a Marine bird. I was stationed in S.D. when NAS Miramar was converted to MCAS Miramar.

One of my favorite stations was McConnell AFB. We lived close to the take off path of the B-1 bombers. They took off with four jets on afterburner and would nearly shake the pictures off the walls. It was exhilarating every time.
I don't get people who complain about military aircraft near their houses, especially the high performance variety. They're not just cool, they make me proud to be an American.

Yep, Miramar used to be a great, noisy base. But, it has had problems with surrounding airports before the housing started to interfere. I listened (UHF scanner) to the Blue Angels practicing for an airshow in the late 80's and several times heard an Angel curse on the radio after having a maneuver aborted due to a private plane getting too close. Now with the surrounding area totally built out, the base is under intense pressure.
Hard to believe there used to be a USMC base in the university/Torrey Pines area, complete with rifle range, and a race track was there too. Lived there six years, can't recognize the place now..........
