Its pretty much a Catholic thing that Muslims are getting blamed for. I mean, why would anybody associate Islam with a pathological fear and suppression of female sexuality. Now you get into a very strange social thing. The Quran recognizes that women have sexuality and that they should enjoy sex. In fact, a punishment for "misbehaving" wives is for the husband to deny them sex. At its core concept, the clitorectomy is against Islam.
What other examples are there?
All over mid-Africa in populations that didn't convert to Islam. Christians still haven't been able to kill the Christmas tree, yule log, Christmas itself, Easter bunnies and Halloween. Female circumcision is the same thing (in concept, not degree), an old custom that survived through the new religion and is therefore practiced, and even mandated, by some of those of the new religion. However, it is illegal in many Muslim countries, and actual clitorectomies are banned in the Shia sect (they do basically what happens in a male circumcision, and it's not mandatory).

a punishment for "misbehaving" wives is for the husband to deny them sexI'm sure that's real effective.

Tell your friend if he's stationed in Japan, he owes you a silk kimono. You'll both like that better.

I lived in North Africa for 3 years. Men did not "do this" to the women--there is a strict gender barrier once one is an adult. The women maintain this barrier by their own choices. Not all Islamic countries are the same and we err to compare them without knowledge of the culture and the interpretation of the religion. In Saudi Arabia, the abaya allows a woman to conduct business within that environment.

To help free Muslim women from this oppression, I say we print and apply bumper stickers that read:
Abayas Turn Me On!
and
Burqas Turn Me On!

How in the hell can we expect these backwards asshat Muslims to adopt democracy when they have such idiotic religious views?

The women you refer to have no real free choice since they're brainwashed from birth and live in Muslim societies that frown upon free thought of any kind.

Always been my guess, personally.
So much hatred of women and almost comical displays of hypermasculinity interspersed with the hystrionics and over-emoting. Shrill bunch of shrieking queens with bomb belts, if you ask me.
And apparently, those 72 virgins don't have to be female either.

As heavy as this garment is in a freaking 110 degree desert... I guess not only do Saudi men like their women obedient, but with a good amount of BO as well. Whew.
Once again, I thank MY God that I was born in America.

>>>We must not deny that the abaya is an exciting garment in many ways. For instance, to outsiders and others unfamiliar with our culture, it suggests a hidden mysterious beauty.>>>
Yeah, that beauty. Just like those old Bugs Bunny cartoon where the Arab girl had a cloth over everywhere but her eyes and when she took the cover off, BUTT UGLY. That kind of beauty?

"She said that she never felt the abaya was restricting her or limiting her movements or her freedom. "
I suppose the fact that she knew she wasn't forced to wear it and could take it off at any time had nothing to do with her feelings. /s

---
Go to post reply. There are three boxes. The top say: "To:", the middle says "Your Reply:". The third (which is only one line in height) says: "Tagline:". It's right above the "Spell", "Preview" and "Post" buttons. Type or copy whatever text you want there.
Your tagline should persist until you change it.
