"So they should have courted illegals at the expense of totally alienating the GOP base? Yep, that sounds like a winner for the GOP!"

___________________________________________________________

Been there, done that....remember KrLaRazaRove hispandering?

We can now sit back and watch GWB dismantle what is left of the Republican party. Rove is still trying to wipe the dirty Sanchez off of his upper lip as I type this. What will be the end result of 20+ million future Dum-o-crats funneled into our future political landscape?
Considering it takes a few years to push the paperwork through (unless GWB does some blanket type of "Fast Track" Shamnesty)...we Republicans have a 20% chance of having our guy in the White house in 2 years...
and after that...well....common sense and demographics take over. We're not likely to see another Republican president for at least 20 or so years.

Seriously, think about it.

"Walker and his brother, Corey Woods, answered the door and tried to tell Hernandez-Aragon to leave, but the man only spoke Spanish, they said."

Those damned racists! They should be forced to take spanish lessons so poor "Pedro" won't feel offended.

They'll give Webb, McGaskill and other DEMS who campaigned against amnesty a pass to vote against the bill.

They will vote for the bill, they are democrats.

This issue might just be big enough to finally create a third party

Why not? We could start in here. Grass roots.

A third party ain't going to happen.

The founders set up a two party system and not a parliamentary one.

Americans overwhelmingly want to end illegal immigration and curtail legal immigration.

Yet the Republican party and our President Bush ignore the will of the people.

Wait till the anchor babies are added to the voter rolls. We will have a zero percent chance. When they are able to vote in rewards for madre and padre they will not hesitate. We will see entitlement after entitlement voted in to reward madre and padre for bringing them here.

Lou Dobb's populism get's us ZERO, as usual, but he knew that.

Obviously the Conservatives and Republicans who surrendered the majority out of some mythical punishment scheme had not a clue.

As evidenced by the fact that they dumped the ONLY firewall we had AGAINST illegal immigration in the House of Rep.

The core problem with this article is that pubbies across the ideological spectrum lost their seats. As I recall, Chaffee was in favor of shamnesty, and he lost. Meanwhile, several of the Dem candidates who won took very tough positions against illegal immigration. As the article noted, hispanics were not large factor in most of the key races. So how could they have had an impact in swinging control of the House and Senate.

Yeah know, did it ever occur to you to bring these people over to our side especially since they are anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage.

Whoops I forgot, you automatically measure people by their surname and not what they have believe politically wise.

You really are an ignoramus. The founders didn't set up a two party system. The founders didn't set up ANY political parties. Some were actually quite opposed to the idea.

If it were the will of the people JD Hayworth would have won big.

I understand the passion for curtailing illegal immigration but I personally know too many Republicans who thought the rhetoric was too much.

The South Texas Valley area is the largest Democrat stronghold in Texas. The population is probably 95% hispanic and they have voted Democratic for years and years. It wouldn't surprise me to see a hispanic from South Texas take a chairmanship position. Nothing has changed.

The Cubans and Philipinos (who are considered hispanic) are a different story.

As I recall, Chaffee was in favor of shamnesty, and he lost

And his opponent Whitehosue was against it(nope).

The reason Chaffee lost is that Rhode Island decided to go with the real liberal, as they are a liberal state.

So we lost because of the anti-immigration stance?

You mean you were right all along, Dane?

So in order to win another election..we need to drink the koolaid and embrace Bush's amnesty?

So then, THAT will guarantee we win in 2008 and all those Hispanic voters will diss the Democrats, the party of entitlements?

Is that your way of thinking, Dane?

They set up a winner take all system, which basically means a two party system.

Considering "Shamnesty", when all of these new citizens still have dual citizenship in their old country, who best interests will they vote for? America or Mexico? We know the answer there don't we!!

My point exactly. I really don't think immigration stances, one way or the other, played a key role in the swing seats this election - because the issue got pushed off with the Senate moving more towards enforcement first just before the electon. However, if the Dems work with Bush to get shamnesty passed, Lord knows what will go down from that.
