Then what is the point of the post? You don't know. The father can't post.

I can absolutely guarantee you that members of the USAF can vote in all elections. They do have to exercise their responsibility to act in a timely manner. They do have to be registered to vote somewhere.

This is a ridiculous thread. This young woman could have voted, had she bothered to take the steps required to do so. There is an officer at every USAF installation who has, as part of his or her job, the ability to help both enlisted personnel and officers to vote in the jurisdiction in which they are registered.

This is bogus. She could vote, but, if she cannot, it is because she did not act in a timely manner.

During my time in the USAF, which was in the late 1960's, we were briefed on voting procedures well in advance of elections, and in more than enough time to take care of the paperwork.

I voted in my district in California from New York, Texas, Turkey, and Maryland during my service. In each case, the process was smooth, but you did have to do what was required to get your absentee ballot. Today, it's even easier, since the mail is not required.

You've gotten all paniced about this, and there's no reason for it. I guarantee you that this person had an opportunity to vote. She may have ignored that opportunity. Does she now expect that rules will be broken for her?

FGS -- get over yourself. I am not panicked at all, and FWIW, I read only your last sentence. Now chill out and do not ping me or post to me again on this thread.

OK. So you posted, but you know nothing about what happened. A worthless thread. Whatever the situation, it's way too late to remedy it now. The time to deal with absentee voting when you are outside of the CONUS is at least three months before the election.

If you don't bother, you don't vote. It's that simple. If you take the required steps, you vote.

I vote in Minnesota. That requires that I have registered to vote in my precinct. If I didn't do that, why should I be able to vote? Why should this woman be able to vote if she does not take the required steps?

Believe me, the USAF makes every effort to see that all personnel can vote. You really have to ignore these steps to lose your chance.

Her mail-in ballot was not mailed in time for her to return it. My intention was to follow up on this later when I recieve the rest of the facts of this matter. I had mentioned this story to onyx at a post I made.I am more than overwelmed at the imediate response that has occured on this Tread.

At her base, there is a Voting Officer. She should see that person ASAP on Monday. There are alternative methods that will enable her to vote.

She can go to the Orderly Room for her unit and ask who is the Voting Officer, who will be able to advise her.

This is all solvable. If she has her absentee ballot, and there is not time to mail it back, an alternative method is available. But...she must contact her unit's Voting Officer.

One more note: The USAF is very interesting in making sure that its personnel can vote. She will be able to vote, as long as she sees her base Voting Officer immediately. If she waits until Tuesday, she will not be able to vote.

The problem is not that she cannot vote...it is that she does not now how to proceed. The Voting Officer will fix that, if she take the time to see that officer.

Her mail-in ballot was not mailed in time for her to return it.

Which state, which county? She can fax it back in some places, e-mail it in others, some others will count it as long as it is postmarked before the election date even if received after the election.

I'm in the military. Every election cycle the military has to, by law hand out Federal registration/absentee ballot requests and explain how to fill them out block by block. She had the opportunity, but for whatever reason did not send in the form. Even if she missed the glass she can download the forms online, print them and then mail them off. Of course, you really need more than two days before the election to do this.

Since Nov 30, 1999

With a troll post like this one, I was surprised by that info.

You should have taken the time to research what was going on before posting. From the posts downthread, it sounds like it may be fault of the person unable to vote. But it is easier to blame the Bush team, isn't it.

Onyx is no troll. Is it not outrageous that our MILITARY gets such casual treatment? "Casual" is most neutral and most printable term I can think of when one considers the vested interests who may actively seek to thwart their voting, while enjoying the pleasures of freedom that same MILITARY has secured for all of us...

Don't shoot the messenger.
