I know they have limited headline space but I think they left a word out of this headline:
"INSIDE UNIT THAT OUTWIT TED KERRY"
It should have read:
Inside Unit that Outwit Halfwit Kerry

"It is a violation of military rules for service members to get involved in elections, and it was unclear if the members of the unit - the 1/34 Brigade Troops Battalion - would face any discipline for the stunt."
John Kerry is not running for office. The unit was responding to denigrating comments against them during war, thus giving aid and compfort to the enemy.
There is no grounds for discipline.
There is STARE DECISIS (the Senate's favorite jurist approval expression).
And that is: Kerry must RESIGN!
Kerry called on Lott to resign. Kerry was the 1st to do so.
Now, Kerry must do as he demanded. STARE DECISIS!

"The picture drew heaps of praise, even as the military declared that the soldiers cannot talk to the press about what they did."
Who is "the military" that declared that?
Soldiers can talk to the press, but most decide never to do so.
Soldiers are thoroughly informed that the "press" is nowhere in their chain of command, and not only is deference or reaction to members of "the press" not required, it is actively discouraged for specific reasons, also thoroughly explained.
Besides, it drives "the press" absolutely nuts if anyone looks at them with no change of neutral facial expression, even under extreme offensive verbal provocation...a usefull skill DIs in every branch of the DOD trained everyone who progressed through basic military training to perfect. One of the lessons learned after VietNam.
