Racists in Maryland are not limited to the southern part. Ever been to Dundalk? Hartford County?

Why yes, I've been to both, and plenty. I was just adressing the comment on Southern Maryland here.

I lived near PAX River for eight years and did not find the racism that you mentioned. Even if some of the locals are that way, it is probably more the over 60 crowd. Also, St. Marys and Calvert Counties have added a huge number of new residents from outside the state in the past 10 years.

To: Senator Goldwater

He was a consiglier to Tommy Broadwater, former state senator, proprietor of the Ebony Inn in Fairmont Heights just over the DC line, and kingmaker to PG's black political class for a generation. Curry graduated from Bladensburg back in the seventies and came up through the ranks of PG politics, and was instrumental as County Executive in securing the Redskins deal for Landover. His name hangs on the stadium ring of honor along with Riggins, Jurgensen, Allen etc.

For Curry to come out for Steele a week before Election Day tells me that the insiders who shape PG's body politic are rejecting the Baltimore-centric Democrats at the worst possible time for them, and seek to have their imprimatur on the first open Senate seat in almost a generation.

Thanks for the background. The more I hear, the better I like this.

Racism still exist in MD, the head of the KKK lives in Cecil County and Flies a Confederate Flag over I95 with a crain in his back yard. The funny thing is that he is a registered Democrat. The racist are in the Democrat Party so Ehrlich might atract their votes but Steele will not, however, he will get way more Blacks to vote for him thus countering the Racist D's.

Dear Nonstatist,

"And if Steele is really only 4 to 5 points back, that means he has to flip maybe 4-5 % of the Dem vote."

Indeed.

If Mr. Steele is currently losing by 4% - 5% (and I think it's likely a little closer), a shift of the overall electorate of 2% - 3% would make him the next US Senator of Maryland.

If Mr. Curry really has any power base, any clout, then Mr. Steele should win this election. If not, then the Dems will ignore Mr. Curry in the future, and Mr. Curry likely will not have much of a home, either, in the Republican Party.

I lived in southern Maryland (St. Mary's County) for ten years, and The Enlightener is right-on. The people down there who are so racist that they wouldn't vote for Steele are the ones that are voting Democrat anyway. Luckily, I didn't meet too many racist folks down there - people get along just fine.

I have to agree with you on your second point-- most people in southern Maryland are not racist at all. They are very nice people who get along just fine with everyone else. This also goes for the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It's just been my experience that the vast majority of racists I have had the displeasure to meet while living in Maryland are Democrats.

As for Steele, I think he's going to win because he's a smart guy. I've met him a couple of times at Republican events, and he's really good at lighting up a room. He's the kind of guy I would be happy to vote for because he really knows the issues and he strikes me as a very honest guy, one who means what he says.

Yes, it is the over 60 crowd, and they're mostly in Ridge and 7th district. Unfortunate for the rest of the folks in those two places, because St. Mary's locals in general are great people (natives AND newcomers).

Are you talking about the "Flush You, Governor Ehrlich" guy, right by the bridge? I couldn't remember if he was on the Cecil side or the Harford side. I grew up in Cecil County, and my parents still live there (North East), so I've seen that sign quite a few times. Didn't know it was the KKK guy, though. I thought the KKK was mostly around Rising Sun.

This could be a great ad. It explains why a black man could not win a democratic primary.

You might be a little low on your percentage prediction for Kevin Zeese the Independent candidate for all three parties: Libertarian, Green, and Independent.

He has really shone in the debates. I predict he gets 5% of the vote; for real.
