Thanks for the ping, DS. Will read in total later today.

R, thought you might want to read.

This idea that islam will rule this world is nonsense and is fodder for the faithless.

Wise words, my FRiend. In the meantime, one of the saddest historical notes here, is the present route and devolution of France. Without them, we probably would have never won the Revolutionary War. To see them descend from the historical giant they were, to the toady that they have become is as dispiriting as it is dangerous.

In '68 I spent the summer in Italy, I was 12. The ruins from the second world war were still very evident in my little Samnite town. Last time I was there, no ruins, decent economy, still lovely people, but generally exhausted and prone. Where's Garibaldi when you need him?

The numbers are misleading because the Muslim people are fractured into tons of sects and rival groups. They spend far more time and manpower battling, killing and blowing each other up than trying to dominate others.

Thank you so much for your post and the ping to this article and thread. With all due respect to Mr. Steyn - "Let's start with demography, because everything does" - everything both starts and ends with Almighty God. He is in control. And He's never concerned Himself with numbers. In fact, He's always delighted with choosing to use a remnant of the people, so that His Glory is shone forth, and His Power is praised. The battle is the Lord's and He's already won it! How the campaigns of these days will transpire is all written down in His Book, the Bible, which is freely available to every American (and Canadian for that matter) if they are only willing to look to it. May they do so, for these days of mercy and God's patience with men are not forever, and the Day of His Wrath is coming - it is closer now than ever.

Jesus Christ is God's Given Refuge: Seek Him!

The weakness of Islam is its lack of economic productivity

The Muslim women can only keep churning out babies if somebody else is paying for it all. The crisis will come not in 2050, but in the next 5 years, when the European welfare states can no longer afford to subsidize so many unproductive citizens

True, to an extent. The origin of the Muslim welfare state is the Middle East, where vast oil wealth has allowed for economic basket cases to turn a profit for decades. The baby boom in the Middle East won't end until the oil states become too burdened to be profitable.

I was thinking more of the European welfare states with their unemployed Muslim immigrants, and their middle class who must be slowly realizing that the angry young men who are torching cars in France won't grow up to meekly work and pay taxes to support the elderly infidels

Saudi might stave off the inevitable for a while. The Palestinians are screwed in the near term, as they depend on cash subsidies from Europe as well as arab countries

It is growing because of the large influx of Eastern European and Sephardic Jews; the most westernized populations are not generally reproducing. Also, the Jewish identity is much stronger than European nationism.

That's all true in the philosophical sense but there are some problems with life that really get to me.

You see, I am medically insane and part of it is genetic. What if I pass those horrible genes unto my kids and then they end up deciding to join the Islamic Martyrs Brigade? Should I even take the risk of something like that happening?

Nice choices. Brave New World, or a return to the 14th century.

about 1960, I got to see Aldous Huxley in person at the University of Texas. He was old, blind and feeble, and said nothing much, but there he was, in the flesh. Afterwards I read "Brave New World" for the first time (paperback, for $0.95), and wrote it off as fantasy. Wrong. Little did I know that has the kin of Julian Huxley he knew that what he described was simple extrapolation of what was known in the 1930s. Like all real sci-fi, his novel was a simple extrapolation of the present. I can see the Japanese inventing an artificial womb and bringing clones to full term, maybe within my lifetime (and of course I am not young.). But the effect on society, he seems to have caught, if my memory serves me correctly. Guess I'll have to re-read it.
