You're not the sharpest knife in the drawer, are you?

To me a dullard is someone (LIKE YOU), who posts ZERO facts to backup what they are said.

P.S. What didn't you understand? Should I repeat it, using smaller words?

Fine. Stop talking to us. Better you didn't know about our plans to disempower you big government "conservatives" anyway.

Are both of you in agreement on this or is it just you?

Not to be mean pollyannaish

First of all, never feel bad about being mean to me...although I have to say that if this is your version of being mean you need more practice. LOL. ;-)

If I were in charge, it would be 60 conservative Senators for sure.,

Second of all, quit stalling and get your butt to DC and get it done.

That said, I'll tell you the truth. Unless you can first convince the overwhelming majority of Americans in every State, County and City in the country that they are conservatives, it's not going to happen. As much as we'd like to not believe it, the people of this country as a whole average out somewhere slightly to the right of the middle. We are not, by and large, leftists but neither are we ultraconservatives. (Please note that by "we" I am referring to Americans at large)

Politics in America is not a game of "convincing" from the top. The President can talk, and talk, and talk... but if the majority of Americans disagree, he's a goner. Same holds true on a smaller scale for Senators in their states, and Congressmen in their districts.

Local people drive the agenda. I find on the local level, most individuals are a strange combination of liberal and conservative politics. I know many farmers, while very conservative on national security and social issues, have no hesitation taking their farming-related subsidy checks to the bank. I also know people who hold very libertarian views socially and support the war, but are appalled at government spending. I know some people who are very upset about the war, but hold exceptionally conservative views on social and fiscal issues. I even know people who are liberal socially, hate the war, don't mind government spending on them... but are completely freaked out about the border. The bottom line is that there is no such thing as a "perfect conservative' (you and I excepted, of course. ;-D )

Because of that, it is nearly impossible to create a system in which only conservatives would maintain power and rule in a "purely conservative" fashion. If you are confused about this, you have simply to take a look at the fights we have here at FR! This is a small, committed, informed microcosm of just conservatives as a whole and we can not even agree amongst ourselves! What on earth would make us think that the entire country... or party... would be able to do that?

The Republican National Committee has done quite a job ensuring this will not happen. Are they waiting until 2008?

Finally to answer your bottom line question. I think, if you go back and read what I said you will see this: people who vote based on perception and emotion rather than evidence and long-term strategic goals. Please note that I was not referring to the RNC, but to folks who vote. I personally have long term, strategic goals for what I want my congressman/senator/president/judges to look like. I will always vote for the person who is most likely to head me in that direction OR hold ground. When most conservatives/GOPers go to vote, most of us actually don't vote on "am I ticked off" but rather on "who will best head in the direction I'd like to head."

Now, when it comes to the RNC, they do not ensure anything. They take national money and national statistics and spend it build majorities so they can set the agenda. And this is the most important thing I will say in this entire epistle: THEIR JOB IS DIFFERENT THAN OUR JOB. Their job is to find a way to win party wide so the agenda can be set, our job is to pull the party to the right. You see, the really cool part is that WE can overrule them. Perhaps the most instructive and dramatic example of this comes from the other side of the aisle.

In Connecticut, rank and file Dems overruled their national parties wishes and kicked Lieberman to the curb. Now, originally as it should, the DNC supported Lieberman (although a few smart Dems saw the writing on the wall and quickly shut up) and thew their money and support to the incumbent. That is how it should be. Once Lieberman lost however, the DNC respected the wishes of their constituents and transfered their support to Lamont. (Hilariously getting all kinds of flack from our side, despite the fact that is exactly what we would expect the RNC to do if WE did that to our incumbent.) This is all as it should be. The DNC didn't dictate anything. The spent money out of loyalty to the incumbent at first, and out of loyalty to the constituency in the second.

BUT when it became clear that Lieberman was going to run as an Indie, and that he was going to be the clear winner, the DNC realized that their basket of funds should be spent elsewhere since their job is to build a national majority. They found that they had, for all intents and purposes, already won (or lost) this race. So...they moved the money to places where the race dynamics were tighter.

Frankly, that's just smart and our side has to make these decisions all the time. It's not so much that they are desperately trying to pull the party to the left, or that they are all "closet leftists." They are simply trying to be the ones to set the agenda, rather than the ones who obstruct the agenda. It's really as simple as that.

The PEOPLE in this country decide how conservative, or how liberal our government will be. That simply means that you and I and about half of the rest of the country need to go out and do conservative evangelism, if you will. We need to find the issues where conservatism as a concept resonates with others...even if they don't buy in at 100%. That builds majorities and sets agendas. To behave otherwise is to misunderstand not only human nature, but to misinterpret the American political system and political thought.

This country is great because we are constantly at political war and therefore things change slowly. THAT is the longterm war we want to win. It's arduous and it takes an enormous amount of patience and capacity to absorb setback. But...the country is a lot more mainstream conservative than it was 25 years ago. Today we are feeling the growing pains of having been the responsible legislative party for 12 years and it will take discipline to hold on so we have a 40 year shot of it like the dems did.

The only way to lose this is to cede or control of the agenda/issues/legislature to the left. I for one am not willing to do that, in this election, in the next and in the one after that.

I hope this long explanation helps clarify my statement. If not...feel free to be mean to me again. But I'm warning you! It can take a lot of words to explain it! LOL. Feel free to be "mean" any time. ;-)

Kudos! Great Post!

The left/rats/liberals, etc., etc. have used the steady 'drip, drip, drip' approach to get what they want them with STUNNING SUCCESS! The whining 'I want it now' crybaby conservatives are too stupid to learn from their enemies success. Like Reagan said "I'll take what I can get today and come back tomorrow to fight for the rest..."

Not being attacked again thanks to policies of this Administration namely putting us on the offensive... To me, well that trumps the border.... As long as my kids can continue to safely go to school without the fear of a Beslan type attack or a terrror bombing or when we fly to Grandma Judy's this winter that my plane won't be hijacked and rammed into a building thanks to 8 years of a failed presidency well lets just say that I have my priorities straight and with a Democrat congress that retreats from the WOT and pulls us out of Iraq well I don't think I will have that safety net anymore... PRIORITIES.... You say Border, Border we aren't safe and I say 5 years no attacks on American interests never have we gone this long.. To quote from a wise man "They looked at our response after the hostage crisis in Iran, the bombings of the Marine barracks in Lebanon, the first World Trade Center attack, the killing of American soldiers in Somalia, the destruction of two U.S. embassies in Africa, and the attack on the USS Cole. They concluded that free societies lacked the courage and character to defend themselves against a determined enemy".... Now if all he did was defend our border I think we would have been attacked by now... Border, Border, Border... He hasn't cured diseases either should we not vote for the GOP because of that too????? The self Righteous on this board are the reason that the GOP will lose Congress.

The drip, drip, drip approach isn't nearly as overwhelming as a flood, but it gets some pretty spectacular results. Just ask your nearest icicle—admired for it's beauty rather than it's destructiveness...and yet, still just as deadly as a flood. (Do you think I could work that metaphor any harder? Ha!)

Thanks for the kind words.

Wow you came in late for this post... No Decaf needed. My point is right on. If you are a Conservative Republican and you decide that this is the point in history where you decide to sit it out then you are in effect damning this country to a horrible outcome. My points Leading Democrats and Liberals have cursed the President at incompetent and said every single policy decision that he has made since coming into office is a failure and that they would in fact reverse them all. Apply Newtons Law you know you know for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction... OK

1. Erase Bush's stand on National Security no terror attacks since 911 becomes massive terror attacks in U.S.

2. Bush on economy tax cuts become tax burdens, job creation becomes joblessness, stock market rise becomes fall

3. Bush on Iraq we must win, we have ousted Saddam, assisted with instilling a Democracy becomes. We will lose re-instill a ruthless dictator bent on trying to destroy the U.S. using Islamic Radicalism learned as a lesson of 911.

4. Social Security and Health Care... Bush Ownership Society, anti-Bush Tax everyone to pay for Social Security, Public Health Care for all and Welfare....

You see the Liberals Hate Bush more then they love this country that is the problem. Even a slight margin will be seen as a mandate for immediate and 180 degree change...
