UPS and FedEx are enjoined by federal law from carrying letters AT ANY PRICE. USPS has a federally-enforced monopoly on that service, FRiend.

I agree with you. USPS beats UPS hands down - EXCEPT when it comes to big heavy packages. I use USPS 99% of the time and UPS only when I have a very heavy package.

The employees at my local Post Offices are all very friendly and helpful. The folks at UPS act like they really don't want to be bothered with customers.

UPS ships most of the firearms that go to dealers in the US, about 10 years ago they started to require pistols to be shipped overnight. Because to many of them were turning up missing through ground shipping.

You still send letters? How quaint.

The USPS charges $0.39 for first-class now, by the way :)

How things have changed. I always heard stories of my grandfather as a mail-carrier. With inspectors to check on you and his sense of duty toward his job that equaled his WWI Navy service, he'd never recognize the USPS today.

My post office is much improved after I made a complaint to the postal police. It's not a number they give out freely (for understandable reasons), but if you can get your friendly mail carrier to give it to you, it works wonders.

The theft of my magazines and invitations, and the opening of any envelope that had "Financial Aid Office" on it, stopped.

Then with the anthrax scare, they had more important business to attend to, but the problems are pretty much over--for now.

the USPS Postal Inspector Service is well regarded in the investigative world. at this website you can make id theft, mail fraud and mail theft complaints to the USPIS. This by-passes your local post office in the event the problem resides there. they do respond to these complaints received via internet.

Here in Florida while UPS, FedEx couldn't move while the power was out for over 2 weeks after hurricane Wilma ... the postal service didn't miss a beat. There's something to be said for a company that doesn't need computers or high tech to get a job done.

Hate to burst your bubble but FedEx moves most (if not all) of the USPS Priority mail. Have been moving it for years.

FedEx has an agreement to handle USPS Priority and Express air movement.

My point is when the airport was closed - the Postal Service stayed open. FedEx and UPS were down because they couldn't fly.

By the way .... the 7 year agreement is non-exclusive. USPS uses other carriers other than FedEx.

Nice try .. but my bubble is still afloat.
